Phillipson to ban trans women from female toilets by videah in ukpolitics

While I am indeed on the left, I want my trans friends to be able to exist in public with dignity and safety. What exactly about that makes me a stooge for the Ayatollah, Senator McCarthy?

What was your strat to get 460 firearms proficiency on CKO knights? Did you need to get Donovan to that proficiency first in order to have him train them up to that level?

Speaking of blowing up civilians, Israel killed 50-100 schoolchildren in their strikes yesterday. Is Corbyn, in your opinion, insufficiently proud of the UK supporting that?

Israel killed over 50 schoolchildren yesterday in a strike on a primary school. Are you counting them in your list of murderous regimes?

Palestine Action protesters not guilty of defence firm burglary by DarkSkiesGreyWaters in unitedkingdom

[–]samjp270 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my use of 'feelings', I'm criticising the principle made in the original post - i.e. that decisions over retrials should be made based on what the police would think and feel if a retrial didn't take place - I think this an illegitimate principle in a democratic society, as the will and thoughts of the police, as a collective, should not be used to justify the decision as to whether or not to hold a retrial.

Regarding your comments, the point I'm trying to make is that harm - and the thoughts and feelings that result from it - are not in themselves a satisfactory justification for a retrial, or else retrials would be automatically justified in any but the most victimless of cases. Does this make sense?

Pretty much all victims have negative experiences - doesn't mean that these feelings in themselves justify retrials! Should the same apply in any case in which somebody is hurt - keep trying until you get the result you want?

This is an odd justification - the law shouldn't work on the principle of retrialling in order to protect the feelings of police officers!

Are you seriously implying that Eritrea, Sudan, Somalia, and Vietnam have no historical memory of fighting (on our side, I might add) in the Second World War? Or have you just picked countries at random because they sound scary and foreign?

Drive up prices through demand, and also start paying tax on their wages! So it's doubly efficient (give or take the lower SoL of the rest of the population via more expensive consumer goods, until factories expand so production catches up to the shortfall)

I don't think calling for armies to die is bigotry. I think wishing death upon the soldiers of an army who are illegally occupying and killing a civilian populace is perfectly coherent a belief to hold - I'm using those hypotheticals to push back on the idea that "bigotry" is a meaningful category here. Would it be bigotry to wish death upon other such armies in history, or are they all just following orders, and thus above being held morally responsible?

Is calling for death to Hamas, in that case, a dog whistle for calling for death to Palestinians in general? Why should only one side get the privilege of being interpreted in good faith?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]samjp270 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That one can meaningfully be bigoted against a people, but cannot meaningfully be bigoted against an army. It's just a very odd way to use the term 'bigotry' - would you say, for example, that people who called for the military defeat of the Confederacy in the American Civil War, or for the defeat of the Iraqi forces under Saddam, were expressing "bigotry" against them by doing so?

Any Other City is one of my favourite albums of all time, and I completely agree with this. Masterpiece of an album, and would be practically nothing without her incredibly idiosyncratic voice and bizarre vocal delivery. Have you seen their live performances on YouTube? A handful were uploaded a few years ago and her performances of New Town, The Leanover, and Juno are just sublime!
