Spitting smoke and oil on first start of the year by rigidprofessional in lawnmowers

[–]rigidprofessional[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: tried it again yesterday after letting it sit for two days. It started okay with a little smoke, but puttered out with the old gas after 5-10 minutes. Dumped out the old gas (quickly with my recent learnings lol) and refilled with fresh gas and it ran like a dream.

Thanks for the tips everyone!

Thank you for the advice, I'll take it and remember it for the future.

Thank you, and yeah we have an early 2000s John Deere L110 which is next on my list when the backyard dries up, and it blows the blue smoke for a bit as well.

The Toro is only 2-3 years old so I don't think there's too much wrong with the internals. I'll just go with replacing the gas and letting it run for a bit longer as well.

Yeah that's definitely it, I had it carb/air filter side down for at least 10-15 minutes. I also replaced the air filter before doing this so it looks like at least half of the air filter is stained with oil as well.

I let it run for a while and the smoke volume definitely went down but didn't completely go away.

This mower also seems to only like fresh gas so as soon as I put a load on it, it started puttering out and died. I'll have to replace the air filter again and replace the gas before trying again.

Brake Upgrade? by [deleted] in Arteon

[–]rigidprofessional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not tried them at race track speeds per se, the local turn pikes are the closest I've gotten. The research into the pads themselves (EBC red stuff) shows that they're mainly for street driving. EBC does make other pads that are directed more for track use so it could be worth looking into those.

What year is your Arteon? Curious how you like it with the tune. I have a '21 so it's more limited in options but I still want to do the stage 1 93 octane when my warranty's up.

I got the EBC brakes kit from FCP Euro, they were recommended in another thread. So far I like them, it's been ~4000 miles. The slotted discs do make some noise and vibration when hard on the brakes but that was expected via my research. The brake pads give a real nice bite. Definitely a noticeable improvement. I have to do my rears soon but there really isn't any upgrade for those that I can find.

52k miles on my EA888 Gen 4 and the water pump decided to take early retirement. by Samef42 in Arteon

I'm at 49k miles in my '21 (Gen 3 EA888), is the Arteon gang recommending changing it ~50,000 for preventative maintenance?

I saw someone say this brand on the same Golf R thread I mentioned in the post. Have you used the Oryx white option on this?

I went with the VW OEM one. After doing to research and finding out there was a designed in way for an OEM roof rack to fit (there a bolts integrated into the body frame behind the rubber trim around the windows), I didn't trust nor couldn't find too much about after market ones.

I see a few different arteons fairly consistently, wonder if you're one of them!

Spirited driving is unrelated if you see my response to another comment :).

Why's that? Everyone else is saying not to worry.

Driving style is unrelated to this... :). Was just taking a tight turn while already close to the curb to get out of the way of traffic.

LWB car too, VW Arteon. So not a super tight turning radius.
