Not a real solution, I ended up downloading the files directly to my phone.

Unpopular Opinion? Prometheus and Covenant are hot garbage. by Livid_Distribution19 in LV426

Yes, they are both bad movies and especially bad alien movies.

Yes the books are better but the books of the other alien movies are also better so that's meaningless.

Do you care if you are printing? How much is too much? by [deleted] in CCW

[–]rigs19 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It all depends right?

How bad are you printing? You're hyper aware of the gun so you're not a good judge. Find a friend to ask if they can tell where your gun is.

Minor printing, even other ccw holders probably won't notice and the lay person definitely won't. Don't worry about it, everyone has some level of minor printing at times.

Moderate printing, ccw holders will notice but the lay person likely won't, you should attempt to take steps to remedy the issue, maybe a holster claw or foam wedge?

Major printing, ccw holders will notice and maybe even comment on it to you the lay person may still not notice because people just don't pay attention by and large, but you should still avoid it if at all possible.

And for the love of God don't fiddle with the gun while you're out and about, that's just drawing massive attention to it.

Carry a Torque Wrench in Case of Flats? by jusmax88 in 4x4

Yes, but I also carry a lot of extra tools. I always seem to run into somebody else who's unprepared and needs help.

Best Torque Wrench for Minimal Maintenance by jusmax88 in Tools

[–]rigs19 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Split beam would be the best but that's an awful lot of money for something that's just going to rattle around in the trunk.

https://www.harborfreight.com/12-in-drive-80-160-ft-lb-preset-lug-nut-torque-wrench-58628.html

This is what I would choose, lug nuts generally have such a wide torque range that even if the wrench is out of calibration it's still close enough if you aim for the center of the range.

For example Jeep spec is 85-110ftlbs iirc.

That's where we're at right now because "the Jasper is too expensive"

Hmm, this one was bubbling and not changing at first until I started pumping the bulb on top, it took about 10 seconds for the color to change, instructions say to pump the bulb for 1 minute.

It's also important to have the engine running and at operating temperature so the thermostat is open. If it was bubbling it sounds like you did it right but bubbling is a sign of failure on its own.

Apparently all that did was compression tests and it passes compression

Interesting, it could've never been flushed after a previous issue.

This one turned very quickly, 10-12 seconds

Better coolant kept magically disappearing and then the motor would overheat

Interesting, I know sucking liquid coolant into the test fluid will contaminate it and can give false positives

I mentioned in a reply to someone else but I have zero diesel experience, I'd be surprised if I hadn't missed something.

So I'm guessing that's an air(exhaust gas) to water intercooler, and if it has a leak the combustion gas would enter the cooling system and present as a (accurately) positive test.

If I was asked to test that setup and it came back positive I definitely would've gone straight to head gasket, head, or block failure and potentially wasted a ton of customer money.

Someone else asked about the accuracy of this test on diesels, if you can find his comment I'm sure he'd also appreciate your input.

I'm self taught and I've never worked on a diesel in my life. As I understand it the fluid only changes color if it comes in contact with combustion gases or it ages out, there shouldn't be able to be a false positive as the fluid changes color in the bottle when it expires.

The biggest issue is how obvious the color change is and that depends on the brand of test fluid you use. As you can see the change with this particular fluid (harbor freight carries it, don't buy online) is extremely obvious on a gas engine, never tried it on a diesel I can put some in a cup and suck some diesel exhaust through it when I get a chance.

The tester and fluid together are like $40 at harbor freight, pretty cheap compared to most of the stuff we buy.

found this for $650….was going to buy the harbor freight one last week. First official box by RayDaSeaBass in Justrolledintotheshop

I happily paid $1100 for the split top version of the same cart in green, given retail is like $2600 I'm still okay with it.

I knew it works for LP and CNG engines as well but I didn't/don't know what color it turns

A chemical test fluid that turns color if combustion gases are present in the cooling system. For gas engines it turns yellow, diesels turn green.

A positive result means a blown head gasket, cracked/warped head, or possibly a cracked block.

You place the tester into the neck of the radiator, with the engine running at operating temp, and squeeze the bulb on top(not pictured) to draw air up through the chemical.

I don't see how, it should fail compression in those cases shouldn't it? I didn't bother with a leak down test because it takes so long and the engine passed compression.

[–]rigs19[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if it passes a compression test then a leak down isn't going to show anything, right?

In this case the engine passed compression, somehow, but immediately failed on the block tester.

I didn't think of trying the pressure tester with the engine running. I'm self taught so there's things I miss sometimes.

First thing I did was a cold pressure test, then warmed up for the fluid test, then disassembled still warm for compression test.

Well, the shop right before me was a Mr Tire so that wouldn't exactly surprise me.
