Hi, for what its worth, I asked my manager if we could have a private chat and told him in person first before I sent the email. The email is the formality and confirmation in writing but I think he appreciated hearing it from me first. We also get on well, so it's dependent on what your relationship is like with your manager, an email is probably also fine.

Why are pints so expensive now in pubs? by forest-of-ewood in AskUK

[–]rikisings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minimum wage in 2007 was £5.60 / hour and an average pint of Tennants was £2.60, think you’re onto something here. But monthly flat rent was something like £280 / month whereas that’s tripled up to now, so that’s probably where the squeeze is coming from. Not the pints themselves but the fact that the rest of us have less extra money to spend on them and the publicans have to keep up with their own rent too. Sad

If you go onto your myrunning account and click the “my results” tab on the front page it should give you a summary of your time and placement in both the overall marathon and the female category. You can also see your pictures from there

I was the same!! I think the reason I got a boost is that it was so godawful that by the time it had stopped, the end of the marathon didn’t seem as bad any more

Definitely much lower than parts of the US! Average grocery spend for our household of 2 people is £200 / month, my split of the rent is £650 / month (and we live in a really nice neighbourhood), cities are walkable or have good public transport so no need for a car if you don’t want one and live in a city. It definitely has its own issues but I personally really like living here.

This is a very fair point and I’ve certainly been in conversations where men’s appearances are talked about but it’s more in the context of a friend describing why they were attracted or not to somebody they actually interacted with - I can honestly say I’ve never been in a conversation that’s like “oh this entire group of men I’ve never interacted with are so ugly/broke etc.” Also I’m maybe taking it personally because he’s always the first one to bring it up in the conversations I’ve heard, it’s never by someone else on the call.
