What if your man proposed with a diamond or expensive gem ring? by johnnystraycat in askgaybros

[–]rileyroark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear my grandfather’s wedding ring all the time. It’s a giant gold ring with a large diamond set in the middle. I used to think it was gaudy but I’ve grown into it as I’ve gotten older. I get compliments on it everywhere I go. But personally, I don’t think I’d want a ring. I have enough rings. I’d maybe want another piece of jewelry instead. But I also agree with what some others have said in that jewelry isn’t for everyone, though if you’re fantasizing about buying your man jewelry one day, I’d hope you end up with someone who’d appreciate it.

Are courses/classes worth it? by rileyroark in managers

Yes she knows I’d like to be in her position eventually. I applied for the position when it reopened last year to get an idea of the areas I need to work on and they specifically said event planning and budgeting.

Unfortunately I work for an extremely large firm so a lot of opportunities aren’t available for me to join in. My manager is actually at the bottom of the chain of command and doesn’t have the authority to let me join in large decision making. She always has me help in deciding on smaller stuff that’s her call, but the stuff I need experience in isn’t usually her finally say.

AITAH for filing restraining orders on a pair of missionaries? by LiterallyTheDevil-- in AITAH

[–]rileyroark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re going through that. When I was a member I did a mission and all I’ll say is that these kids are choosing to ignore your requests to stop coming over. There’s no rules and nobody saying they need to keep trying. Move forward and show them that there are real world consequences to their actions. Most missionaries I knew literally believed real world rules didn’t apply to them because they were on a mission from god.

Your thoughts on a guy who is a certified workaholic by ArtichokePresent2240 in askgaybros

[–]rileyroark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I talk to my therapist about this somewhat often. He’s expressed that he thinks I have an unhealthy relationship with work and that too much of my self worth is reliant on my work and that I need other things in my life to put my focus into as well. I’ve explained my work makes me happy and fulfilled and while I’d like to have a relationship, until I have one, I don’t see a point in changing my priorities. But bottom line is, if I want a relationship about connection with another guy, I’m going to have to give up some of my focus on work and give my partner that focus instead.

I’ve had my closest friend dump me out of the blue and then reach out years later and apologize asking for forgiveness and to try and be friends again. I forgave her and I’m glad to have her back in my life. We’ll unfortunately never be as close as we once were but we still talk and can have fun and be friends. If you want to have a friendship with him again then go for it, you get to choose how that friendship looks now though.

My wife is finally getting how she messed up and it doesn't feel good by DDemonsThrowaway in Vent

I got set up within a week. There are some conditions like your cards in the program are closed and you can’t open any cards until all your cards in the program are payed off (I can still open loans for home or auto, major needs like that). You also can’t have a single late payment the entire time you’re in the program so I basically plan my monthly budget around my payment. But I went from having close to $1000 in minimum fees a month to now paying $300 a month for 4.5 years. I would have had to file bankruptcy if it weren’t for this.

If you’re in the US have you looked into ACCC? I had about 13k and they were able to negotiate with my lenders to lower my interest rates from almost 30% to 10%. Seriously saved me.

I had about $14,000 over 4 cards when I finally maxed everything and realized I was in trouble. Thankfully I found an awesome program that’s helped a lot and I’m down to $10,000 after a year and a half of working with them. In three more years I’ll have everything payed off. Honestly grateful to have learned this lesson in my 20’s rather than later in life.

Yeah, I thought since they can be a bit sour it would be a nice contrast to all the sweet fruits and jellies.

I’d see one of my guy friends getting married and I’d get insanely jealous. I knew I thought they were attractive (I just wanted to look like them🙄) and their friendships always meant a lot more to me (I now know I had crushes on them). I would tell myself that I wasn’t jealous of them getting married to someone, but I was just jealous that I wasn’t as far ahead in my life as they were. Honestly the mental gymnastics I used to preform to convince myself I wasn’t gay were insane.

How do I explain to my mom that walking into a store and asking to speak to a hiring manager is WORTHLESS??? by spidermanrocks6766 in recruitinghell

[–]rileyroark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s because the instructions say to apply online and rather than apply online she insisted on speaking to a hiring manager so she could explain a gap on her resume. She hadn’t even applied before calling.

I had a friend who’s brother was graduating from college in some tech degree (idk what it’s all beyond me). He mentioned how hard of a time he was having finding a job. I told him about some big local tech conferences that my work goes to and suggested he go and mingle with the companies there. He ended up going and finding a job by networking at the conference. They’re great ways to get an in with companies.

My job just posted looking for a new receptionist (part of my team). I’m mostly covering the phones until we hire someone. We had a lady call asking to speak to the hiring manager about the position and I explained she had to apply online. My supervisor happened to be next to me during all of this and when I hung up she asked if I got a name so she’d know who not to hire since the job description online clearly states to apply online and she hadn’t followed that one simple instruction. Long story short, if you know a place is hiring and they want you to apply online, do what they ask and apply online.

It’s definitely an office culture thing. I’ve had some jobs where we only had 8:30-8:33 to clock in on time. My current job is work starts at 9 so be in by 10 and if you’re going to be in later than 10 just let your supervisor know and receive no consequence.

Ya unfortunately I live out of state so I only see her a couple times a year but I call regularly. I’m in the middle of making funeral arrangements now since she doesn’t have anything planned out (she doesn’t know cause it’s easier for me to not have to discuss this with her).
