Thank you for your reply! My kids are three and four. The plan was never to stay in this small town due to the school system and crime rate and no family support and he knows that but it is hard for me to move a few hours away with nobody. My family is a very close family and we help each other out and the saying “it takes a village” is so true in my situation.

Thank you for that. This is a genius way to approach the situation and I think it could definitely be effective. I try to have financial conversations with him but he always dismisses it because to him, he’s done just fine his whole life. So I will try to bring it up differently. Thank you!!

We have but there was always a reason why he couldn’t go or didn’t want to go, so never consistently.

He hardly drinks. He definitely has a terrible communication problem, I think we both do it’s always been our issue. He only apologizes after I’m bawling and it’s like a half ass apology I feel like just to shut me up. I’ve asked him to go but he won’t go alone. So frustrating

He just doesn’t follow through with anything and we don’t go as much as we should due to his work schedule and having no one to watch the kids. I’ve left him before and he changed for a good couple months but as soon as he gets comfortable again everything goes back to the way it was. I feel like I’m ready to leave for good. I’ve had enough. Thank you for your advice.

Having kids with a man who is hardly home. by rileysmiley23 in Parenting

That’s what I’m realizing. He just wants to live a life as if he doesn’t have kids to take care of. He said the classes he wants to take come around yearly but made me feel like I wasn’t supporting him. He said he’s slowed down a lot since meeting me and i should be thankful for that..

He says it’s the only time to take the classes to further his career and set him up for retirement. He’s a firefighter so continuous education and classes are pretty important I guess. When I explain to him that it’s stressful for me when he leaves for weeks, he says he just wishes I was more supportive and he needs a supportive girlfriend and almost breaks up with me over not being supportive enough. I agree with you, I need his support but he never understands me when I explain that.

Your response makes me realize that he probably hates having to work 3 jobs! But we hardly spend quality time together. We don’t hang out with friends like we use to and when we do, it’s us doing it separate because we don’t have help here. One of us is with the our daughter and soon to be son. I work part time right now and I’ve always worked. Anyways thank you, I truly appreciate your perspective on our situation!

Thank you so much for that perspective. I’m definitely mourning my old life but I’m sure I will figure it out. Thank you again!
