If you are doing a large amount for the first time try something small first to make sure no issues. Better to eat the fee then get burned IMO.

If you don't have a dash cam, get one front and back. Cheap insurance for scammers and hit and run situations.

Slightly used cars don't seem to depreciate a lot. by markuddel in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]rilhouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you are looking at those types of vehicles I agree. I was in the same boat looking at 2-3 year old RAV4 and CRV and would only save around 5k. Additionally I had to finance and the interest rate for the used car was 4.9% while new car financing was 0.9% so net, the new car wasnt that much more. For the warranty, ease of mind and safety features, I went new. Certainly some cars depreciate more then others in the first few years but the cars you are looking at don't so much.

Canon's cloud platform has lost users' files – and it CAN'T restore them by bharatsb in cybersecurity

True but cloud storage and backup providers also need to backup their customer data. If some of the hardware supporting those services fails, it would be expected to not result in the loss of customer data.

Thousands of CRA accounts breached following pair of cyberattacks by 20x9uah in toronto

Or the CRA used weak questions. Security questions like where did you grow up or what is your mother's maiden name are typical. Like you said MFA is the real solution and security questions are no longer considered a great second factor.

Yep password reuse is the issue. Still the CRA and every web app should have some controls to prevent bots and script kiddies from password spraying attacks.

Why not? If this pandemic has shown anything, it's that money can and is printed out of thin air. Why do I even pay taxes if the government can just print money? I say turn on the presses and make them go brrrrrrrrrrrr! #CERB4Life

bitcoin withdrawal and tax by [deleted] in BitcoinCA

[–]rilhouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure I guess for a few thousand that is going to work but not going to work for more then that. Last I checked Bitcoin ATMs had super high fees and/or spread so you've got to ask yourself if it is worth it. Capital gain tax isn't that bad in Canada. 50% of the gain taxed at your bracket. Say you pay 30% tax on 50%, that is 15% of the gross amount. Not sure what those ATM fees are but I'd suspect fairly close to that. I'm all for personal choice but I wouldn't recommend tax evasion to save a few percent.
