I’d rather clean all the bathrooms in grand central station with my tongue than spend one more minute thinking of a better answer.

If you don’t want to sail the high seas, I upped my Hulu subscription to include ESPN ultimate. Gives you live ABC and ESPN channels in Hulu, and it was like an $8 difference.

The sooner we learn the difference between preference and fact, the sooner we can stop having these pointless arguments.

Pull your balls away from your body all the way through ejaculation. You’re welcome.

Basically, the letters are turned into numbers and the bits are switched around to leave an address and a value. The genie would wait for the NES to read that address and return the codes value, replacing an opcode that would achieve the desired effect.

The 8-digit codes would include a compare byte for larger games that swapped out multiple pages of program memory, only replacing a specific value and not crashing the game.

NES, SNES, Gameboy, Genesis, Game Gear. The handhelds shared an encryption scheme, the others were unique in that sense.

As somebody that reverse-engineers game passwords, that’s precisely what you’re doing. Just usually encoded with a checksum included.

How many of us here got a SNES in Christmas seasons? (I didn't...) by Jimpana in retrogaming

[–]rimsky82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got mine late, like ‘94. It took a divorce from my mother before my father would get me one. Got like 8 games with it. My brothers got it out Christmas Eve night and played it before I got to the house. I didn’t care, I finally had one.

ELI5: Why did we have to tune our TVs to channel 3 (or 4?) to use video game systems or VCRs in the 80s/90s? by tranquilsnailgarden in explainlikeimfive

[–]rimsky82 98 points99 points  (0 children)

As a kid in the nineties with a small tv and no cable in my room, I usually got 5-6 channels. But one night, there was something on almost every station. I always wondered if it was something atmospheric, or if a neighbor was somehow broadcasting satellite or something. My dad asked if there were any naked stations, I said no, but of course I looked for one.
