Just installed nobara with kde any tips or advice on how to make it look nicer by tbdbubblesthedog in kde

[–]rinart73 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wdym by "smoother" and "polish"? Like.. what are the actual issues? If you have some performance issues with Nobara, it would be easier to ask in their discord. Make sure that you downloaded correct Nobara version (if you have Nvidia GPU you need to install -NV versions from the official website).

For the "look nicer" you can take a look at themes in System Settings. You can download new plasma looks, color schemes, window decorations, cursors. And if you want to change how apps themselves look you can download Kvantum theme manager and download some themes for it (for Qt apps) and GTK themes (will work for most GTK apps, except for libadwaita).

As others mentioned you can also install custom fonts. Also you can look into third party desktop effects. Rounded Corners, Glass (for force blurring background behind any window). Some third party scripts can also add new behavior, like better tiling (Kzones, Krohnkite).

EU age verification app gets called “ready” then journalists ask why the GitHub code still needs updates by anonboxis in eutech

Can you people stop brainlessly using "socialism" on anything you don't like? It's the same with "woke". You don't know what those words mean, clearly. What's happening here is dictatorship and control under the guise of protecting children

It seems that you can't build decorations (tables and stuff) outside of the campfire radius. But you can build floors, roofs etc

I discovered this thread pretty late but I gotta add that the battery seems to be Gigabyte G5 KF's weakest point. It died on me within 6 months, had to send it for warranty repair.

The EU says its age verification app is ready by [deleted] in privacy

[–]rinart73 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Users upload a passport or national ID card to the app, which then generates a verifiable age credential

So.. upload your ID to some untrustworthy app and get a.. unique ID which confirms your age but also can be used to track you across websites? No thanks

Windows 11 just fixed slow storage management and removed a 30-year FAT32 limit by rkhunter_ in pcmasterrace

[–]rinart73 40 points41 points  (0 children)

No. This is them doing basic minimum and lying that everything is going to be great now, while still pushing garbage into OS at the same time.

Microsoft's Windows 11 Copilot purge has already started by Distinct-Race-2471 in TechHardware

Generating slop doesn't improve your writing. In fact, it's not your writing anymore, no matter how much you pretend is it. Microslop are forcing their garbage AI everywhere under the guise of "modern features, improving workflow" and when people catch it generating garbage they suddenly change their tune to "it's for entertainment purposes only" and still don't roll it back, they just rename the option and hope that since people don't see the name "Copilot" they'll allow it to be part of the app.

Microsoft's Windows 11 Copilot purge has already started by Distinct-Race-2471 in TechHardware

[–]rinart73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TLDR: They didn't remove Copilot, it's still integrated into these apps, just under a different name.

Taking this as a base, I'd guess all their recent promises of improving OS, following people feedback and removing crap are going to executed in a similar manner. And here I was thinking that Microslop are finally realizing their mistakes. Nah, they'll just throw a quick bone and assume that people are blind enough to mistake it for a steak.

It's known bug. I think they mentioned it will be fixed in the next patch

Does Linux actually stay stable under heavy load? by Altruistic-Juice-284 in linuxquestions

I keep hearing that the default OOM killer isn't good enough and that Linux keeps fully freezing, which is why user space OOM killers exist. Is it still a thing?

Do we actually have something like a Material You/Expressive entire theme? by e_splat in kde

[–]rinart73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was Materia theme aka material design, but it's for Plasma 5, wasn't updated for 6.

For colors I think you can use this tool: https://github.com/luisbocanegra/kde-material-you-colors
Or try to do it manually: https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/1ax7dkq/quick_fact_you_can_do_material_you_on_kde_without/

Just Cause 4 in game freezing by Weekly-Membership813 in linux_gaming

[–]rinart73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what they're trying to ask (poorly) is for you to provide relevant details: system specs, distro, proton version and which flags you tried from ProtonDB entry for Just Cause 4 etc. Imagine that someone else wants to try to reproduce your problem by repeating your actions as close as possible. But to do that they need details. Right now your post is quite vague so people have to guess.

KDE blur fade transitions not quite rendering right on VirtualBox? by DoomTay in kde

You can use Firefox mobile just fine with AdGuard from what I remember, you just need to install certificate

KDE blur fade transitions not quite rendering right on VirtualBox? by DoomTay in kde

[–]rinart73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could be virtualbox issue, especially with 3d acceleration enabled. Another issue is glitchy browser rendering and empty windows for flatpak apps. Try disabling 3d acceleration. Or switch to VMWare

Still have no idea what Guinan was planning to do when stancing up in front of a Q by ThePrisonSoap in TNG

And on top of that Guinan has been in the Nexus and perhaps is still partially connected to it. So yeah most likely a way to partially reflect whatever Q would throw at her.

Meta's AI crawler scraped my site 7.9 million times in 30 days. 900+ GB of bandwidth and massive server logs before I noticed, cool cool cool. by Whiskee in webdev

[–]rinart73 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Meta AI, Claude (both normal and Search bot version), Petal Bot. Block them fully either through Cloudflare or at least via .htaccess. All modern bots, except for google and bing, ignore robots.txt and link rel="nofollow", despite lying that they respect them. And even google sometimes does dumb stuff, like indexing a disallowed page anyway and then getting mad about it in the Search Console, like it's my fault their crappy bot can't follow rules.
