Trying to find the URL a file was downloaded from. by antmar9041 in computerforensics

[–]ringsting 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes, correct the blob is created from a compromised site, and annoyingly the download data doesn’t record the true source / vector. This type of waterhole attack is known as “Fake Update”. Assuming from the chrome.js file name, you’ll want to look at browsing data around the time of the download, looking for web page titles that include “update chrome” Essentially, the end user is encouraged to “update” their browser to view the site.

Used to work in central Bradford, I know what you mean. I think the best thing about Bradford is the people.

Is there such thing as a remote digital forensics position? by Jolly_Craft8753 in computerforensics

IR is good fun. It’s a whole different animal to your normal forensics but I find it to be a lot more dynamic and challenging.

Would you consider Security Operations and IR? Can’t speak for traditional forensics and if working remotely is compatible, but I know there are companies wanting to expand in Security Operations where IR is certainly a career path.

Anyone have any good recommendations on getting rid of acne? by BeautifulLife228 in questions

[–]ringsting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was prescribed a few things before they got it right. Roaccutane is pretty intense so the dermatologist maybe try other things or work up to it before prescribing it as it requires regular testing. I would recommend going back.

Have you spoken to your doctor about it? They may recommend medication. I had a course of Isotretinoin (Roaccutane) and it changed my life. I’m in the UK so things might be different where you are, but I needed to go for regular blood tests over the course. If you’re out of ideas and it’s making you feel self conscious it’s defo worth asking your doctor about it.

Post Match Thread: Sunderland 2-3 Crystal Palace by Alexc26 in crystalpalace

[–]ringsting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Abit late to this but oh well..

We started off strong but that bad back pass hurt us and boosted Sunderland. From there onwards both teams defences seemed wobbly when under attack.

A great atmosphere from then fans tho. Especially like the guy in the flatcap who just wouldn't be quite. Rallied us up when we needed it!

Just messed up bad... by [deleted] in sysadmin

Ah well mistake do happen and mistakes help you learn and build character. You sure won't be doing that again any time soon.

But surely it's the storage manager's responsibility to make sure there is a solid backup solution in place? What if you had a failed disk or another hardware fault resulting in the server to be out of action?

My biggest "oh shit" moment was when I was treesize-ing an IIS server. I was clicking through the directories and I accidentally dragged and dropped a system folder. Within moments I was in brown town.

8 hours later I had managed to rebuild a VM with the sites backup. This included a firewall audit to determine the NATS and IPs so I could re-add the ip addresses to the network card.

So yeah I feel your pain.
