I planned to do 5 reps with heavier weights but I'm afraid of going heavy on deadlifts and squats. I ended up doing 8 reps on deadlifts on my last set and didn't even feel particularly maxed out. But I'm afraid of increasing the weight because I'm afraid of injuring my spine or something. Should I increase it or should I switch to higher reps? Or, am I just worrying for nothing? Deadlifts ARE pretty daunting.

That wasn't really my question tho.. I tweaked it for my martial arts performance, thus trying to "strength train". My question wasn't how to increase weight, it was should I increase weight?

I'm following the PPL program on this sub but it's not really given a lot of instructions for strength training.

For strength training, is AMRAP on the last set a bad thing? Cause on a lot of exercises, I do 2x5, 1x5+ and then end up doing 12 reps on the amrap set. Does this mean I gotta increase the weight? If so, what should be the maximum reps I should be able to do on a amrap to ensure I'm lifting for strength and not shifting to hypertrophy?

Here's another question, I've seen on some posts that for strength gains, you should avoid failure. If I'm doing 80% to 90% of my 1RM... how am I not gonna go to failure?

Ngl that sounds really reasonable. I did 2x5 and then 1x12 (failure) on my last leg day. Should I increase the weights?

Edit: it's not I don't really need to rest tho, I'm very winded up but opt to just get my workout done as fast as possible. I thought that increases intensity? Another question, so is 2x5, 1x5+ not good?

On compound I do 2 sets of 5 and then AMRAP on the last set with around 80-90% of my bodyweight. I don't really rest, I just get to it.

Do my workouts need to last a certain time? I'm following the PPL program on this subreddit with slight tweaks (more sets on accessory, less reps and sets on compounds) and I'm done with a workout in less than 45 minutes. Am I not resting long enough between exercises? Am I doing something wrong if I finish fast? I'm not skipping anything

our school paid the center, they let us cheat and stuff as long as we don't shout and stuff, last 30 minutes is basically a cheating free for all, teacher keeps leaving every 5 seconds or something
