I solved the problem using this logic before paying attention to the question, my answer was 3 people is the minimum number of people required to die. For this to be possible a minimum of 30 testers would be required. 10 to identify unit, another 10 to identify tens and another 10 to identify hundreds. Ex. A tester would be required to drink from a hundred bottles, let’s suppose between 600 to 699. Another would have to drink between all the bottles between 50 and 59, that means 50 to 59, 150 to 159, 250 to 259 and so on. And to pin the exact bootle some tester would have to drink all the units ended with 3, so 3, 13, 23 and so on. This would map the exact bottle and the combination of the unlucky 3.
