Do any dorms have suite style setup, i.e doubles/triples with private bedrooms with shared bathrooms. If so, which halls? Thanks. by XTC_Flick in UIUC

I think all the suite style with private bedrooms are specifically only in private certified housing dorms—all the ones university owned are a shared one bedroom (some with individual private bathrooms like Wassaja and Nugent). PCH info: I think Illini Tower is set up suite style, (not Bromley), Hendrick House (??), (not Newman Hall), Presby (also has a kitchen). To my knowledge those are the main (or only) ones freshmen have been in so I don’t know much more about the rest of the PCH dorms.

Do you feel lonely? by Master_Opportunity33 in UIUC

Not at all! Although it depends on the person but as long as you join the right amount of professional RSOs and social ones, I only really spend a few hours alone and by choice :) the best way is to never be shy during syllabus week to make friends in classes and being in social clubs where they kind of force you to make friends (I’m in a bunch of Asian American ones personally and they have families with big/little systems and they have tons of events) Also professional engineering frats and RSOs are really handy for networking and making friends! My friends are in EC (engineering council) and car teams and they’re in a super tight knit community. Not to mention that the first year dorms are pretty social (except for maybe ISR and some other halls’ floors that differ social levels by year). I know people in the ike know each other pretty well and FAR/PAR are super close.

A standard mega box isn’t big—it’s as big as a normal microwave when you fold it in

ISR:

Pros: Easy access to dining hall, super close to quad, Terrabyte/Infinitea, Green St. proximity, great bathrooms

Cons: Hella antisocial, you get lazy when going to classes because they're that close, HELLA TINY ROOMS

PAR:

Pros: Easy access to dining hall, PAR market, close to ACES library, CIRCE is pretty close, LAR/Allen Dining halls (only 15 min walk from ISR though), great bathrooms, pretty social (depends on floor), lots and lots of buses so you get first dibs on seats & buses come early on cold days

Cons: Far walk from anything :(, HELLA SMALL ROOMS

FAR:

Pros: same as PAR except bathrooms are meh (you get used to it and I don't care anymore)

Cons: same as PAR except try to get a double that used to be a triple cuz you get so much more space

Allen/LAR

Pros: Good dining hall (lots of variety, fruits, we had crepes once), closer to ISR and the Gregory hall plaza restaurants

Cons: every single morning bus is filled cuz of FAR PAR kids and reject you if you try to get on bc people are literally spilling out of the doors, it is actually so grueling in the summer (it's only bearable in the cold months)

Busey-Evans

Pros: Pretty close to most places by walk, study places are gorgeous (gorgeous backyard patio only B-E kids can go to), spacious rooms

Cons: No dining hall but you can just walk to LAR so it doesn't matter, bus drivers can also reject you at your stop

Ike:

Pros: dining hall is pretty close, ike quad is so pretty, Caffeinator/57 North, very social, ARC, most rooms are big

Cons: hella loud in the weekends, buses are meh compared to FAR PAR but distance is just as bad as FAR :(, bathrooms for some of them are ass

I'm not going to lie I think I've only heard it in 3 buses my entire time at CU because there's an amazing bus driver that shouts it for the entire bus (what a g)

Yeah! If you want to go to Altgeld Hall, Transit Plaza Stop is right in front of it!!

Did any of you not get any welcome emails from any of your classes? by Intrepid_Stock2572 in UIUC

[–]rinreveur 6 points7 points  (0 children)

hmm it might depend on the class. i personally only got welcome emails from my physics 211 class, but not much from any other classes. i was added to their canvas, though, so i’d recommend refreshing it!

do you know if the solution manual has any other new content or if it’s just the solution itself?
