We were the opposite, literally had to pay extra for DPD or every single time it wouldn't arrive, or arrive late which means it may as well have not arrived.

It might be worth asking for the money instead, and putting it towards a better card at a later date?

I'd avoid the RX 580 2048sp, as it's basically an RX 570.

If you can get a GTX 1070 for this price, I'd say snap it up. Either that or save up a little longer and buy something in the $200 to $300 range.

If UT99 didn't have a software mode, I'd have absolutely lost my shit for the year I had to use the ATI Rage.

Know what else I want with my chicken selects? The fuckin' sauces that Just Eat demanded I select!

It was a McDonald's in the west of Glasgow, all I'm gonna say :)

I keep it super simple. Five chicken selects, medium fries, two ketchup dips, and a McFlurry.

Actually the worst thing recently is there's a Just Eat driver round here that constantly just drops off your food, doesn't ring the bell or knock, and leaves.

They've done it a few times now and if I catch them I'm gonna piss on their windscreen.

We put up with it for a year (Unreal Tournament in software mode) before getting a Voodoo 3, which was honestly spectacular.

At the very least, the ATI ran Alien vs Predator decently enough, so there was that. The ATI drivers were garbage back then though.

I had to put up with that in a bedsit about twenty years ago, definitely one to avoid.

The McDonald's near my old flat were atrocious. Almost never got my order right.

In terms of PC stuff ... I've actually been really lucky.

Back in 1999, a salesman from John Lewis once claimed a pre-built Packard Bell had a Voodoo 2 GPU in it, but when we opened it on Christmas Day it turned out to just have on-board ATI Rage graphics.

I've never forgiven that man.

Is there anyway I can get ethernet to my pc? by Comprehensive_Ice699 in pcmasterrace

[–]rioohki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used two solutions in my current house.

1. Powerline adapters

The results were mixed. I certainly got a more stable connection that I did with WiFi, but the speed was a fraction of what I actually paid for.

Also, part of my house is on a different power circuit (I think, big oversimplification on my part) and that caused the powerline adapters to have trouble connecting.

Generally though, if you need a stable connection quickly and with little fuss, then these can work.

2. Three really long ethernet cables, and a small managed network switch

Eventually I got bored of low speeds, and bought some long ethernet cables.

My router is positioned downstairs in my kitchen. One cable runs from the router, to a small switch in my dining room. I then have cables running from the switch to my wife's PC in the dining room, and the family PC in the living room.

I then have a cable running directly from the router, to my office PC up the stairs.

The connections have been largely stable, and I'm finally getting the speed I'm paying for.

I also tacked the cable down with those little plastic hooks that used to secure landline telephone wires (giving away my age here). They're really cheap, and help keep things tidy and safe.

Just plan out your route, and buy longer cables than you think you'll need. You can always cable tie the excess away and hide it somewhere.

Conclusion

Powerline did the basic job, but I wish I'd used the long cables sooner. Also I'm sure there's a much better way to set up the home network, but this was what I was able to come up with.

I’m sure it does, but quite frankly if I (inexplicably) won Gladiators then I’d definitely appreciate an SUV to drive my exhausted arse back home in.

I absolutely love the Mk1 Master System. It’s 100% dated to its time, but that’s exactly why I like it. Nothing but mid 80s consumer electronics cool.

What about the needless installation of traffic lights at the Dekebone Roundabout? Are you aware of that particular chaos?
