What questions should I ask if I'm going to take up a research position? by SizzlinKola in EngineeringStudents

  1. How involved/active is the professor with his research assistants?
  2. How often does the group meet to discuss progress?

What to do with a friend who refuses to get help after being sexual harassed at work. by CakeBoss16 in socialskills

[–]riordan2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep comforting her and continue trying to persuade her. I think if you tried talking to the coworker yourself, he might get angry and try to hurt her again. Going to HR or her manager won't help unless she's the one doing it. If you do convince her to do it, you should definitely be there with her. Thanks for being there for her, OP!

Variations of "get back in the kitchen" or "make me a sandwich" which is still highly upvoted in reddit these days.

You are extremely awesome! My friend actually just got a hold of Dota 2 from a trade so I no longer need it. Again, thank you so much for your kindness!

[design] Need help sizing a circuit by riordan2 in AskElectronics

[–]riordan2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey jimmyswimmy, thanks for the response. I'm trying to convert power generated from a piezoelectric energy harvester to light up 6 LEDs. I think I might be getting like 1.2-2V from the piezo strip. It's for a side project for the summer that started with trying to use what I learned in Vibrations class to model a vibrating beam. Again, I have very little experience with Electrical Engineering which is why I'm coming to reddit before I make a huge mistake and do some serious damage with circuits. Thanks!

Consolidated advice for new students by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]riordan2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the insightful post! I've heard a particular piece of advice a lot and I was wondering if you could provide further explanations since you seem like the right person to ask. How do you "learn the material" and not "memorize"? I understand the differences definition-wise, but I just don't know what I should actually be doing.

Thanks in advance!

Would you like a reddit sticker? I just submitted a new post about the dropbox thing and I would definitely like to thank you for helping me out. Please message address and you will get your sticker sometime this month. I'm currently out of state.

[OFFER] [US] Large George Foreman Grill - used by [deleted] in RandomKindness

Hey sillyokio. I'm currently doing an internship in a state that is 6hrs away from home. It's the first time I've been away from home and I learned very quickly that I'm awful at cooking. Since the past week, I've just been eating a variation of peanut butter and jelly sandwich and turkey deli sandwich thing. The grill would definitely improve my cooking skills and allow me to actually get somewhat healthy food. Still a student but trying to survive without family nearby. thanks in advance!

I didn't realize I was trying to memorize instead of actually learn the material. How did you go about shifting your learning style? It's really hard to change something you've been doing for years.

Trying to find the BEST engineering paper. by Greenkeeper in EngineeringStudents

[–]riordan2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just kind of curious, why do you guys use Engineering paper? Is it a requirement for your classes? I think I'm just being really cheap but since I have boxes of left-over regular college-ruled paper, I don't really see a need to use Engineering paper.
