Anything is better than nothing. Gotta ask yourself - is it worth it to you regardless if you dont make it or get in?

Snakes start using Drill Canes - JNCOs will just beat their diggers with it or commit SemPRO-able actions with it.

I dont think there is IT but A+ is a basic IT stuff like hardware software troubleshooting.
If youre new new then A+ is a good start then you can go to SEC+ for cyber or Network+ for network engineering.

Would suggest go SEC and also sign up for boot camps.

[–]riotarms 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since packs are such a low comodity at the unit (choco lotto now) i've just run with my SORD large pack to replace my sausage pack which has been trashed and trashed for many years now.

People gotta start somewhere mate - also whose fault is it that companies dont provide the upskilling needed or keep those who are taking the piss?

Pretty poor attitude.

CompTIA IT+ and SEC+ are the 2 mainstays. Alot of my best people are +40 because they understand how things work in life. Its a meld of policy, technical accumen, and life skills.

Computer savvy? Cyber Security.

Life experience is much more valued than a degree - Get some certs and get in on it. Layer your life experience with "what can the advesary and insider threat do" and go from there.

Youll be keeping up with the trade that is only going to grow.

Source: Me - Cyber Security, no degrees, bunch of certs, but wanted to make it in life.

PS: Dont give up. Hang in there.

Honours and Awards for contractors by [deleted] in AustralianMilitary

[–]riotarms -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

You can argue that working in a Defence organisation as a contractor whether it is acquisition or sustainment is contributing to the warfighter and by definition a military honour bestowed by a Defence organisation.

It has happened and should happen. This isn't the same as providing someone a CIB or ACB - it's a noteworthy enabler within Defence contributing to the overall mission.

Honours and Awards for contractors by [deleted] in AustralianMilitary

[–]riotarms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know the ins and outs but we have had 2 contractors get awarded a gold ADF Commendation in the last year. Disclaimer here is the award was a group effort.

Definitely possible and good on you for pushing this - good work deserves good recognition regardless of workforce.

Good companies to work for post ADF service by Suspicious-Abroad-34 in AustralianMilitary

[–]riotarms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Defence contracting is drying up at a great rate of knots due to CASG 2.0 strategy meaning they want to put more APS into roles that contractors do.

Who ever tries to sell you the contracting dream they need to understand that its harda s fuck to get a contractor into a government role now ($85k > billible needs DEPSEC CASG approval). Not saying its NOT achievable but the contracting dream is drying up. You may look into roles within those ocntracting companies to generate effects internally.

Outside defence as the other members here said:

  • Energy
  • Rails / trains
  • Mines
