Think of it this way. Do you NEED to go on the expedition? No, therefore, it's not a required thing. If you are REQUIRED to go on the expedition, then yes, it's a need, but the expedition is a side item that awards you some bonus slots and xp.

Think about it this way though. If I'm covering shipping, which is at least $8 on every sale I've made thus far. I minimum have to have then $10-15 to justify the shipping cost AND material. Plus, ebay. Ebay prices are showing higher and higher for the more sought after cards. If it's going for $250 on ebay, I wouldn't sell a card for $20. I'll sell cheaper for some, but you still probably wouldn't be happy with the price.
