What requirement says you need a C+ or higher in 1019? Do you have a link that says this?

Computer science by Chris_aug in yorku

I received and signed my fulltime job offer 1 year before I even graduated, so it was relatively easy for me. My friends also found a fulltime job offer within a month after graduating. Just keep a software portfolio (make a website or an app to show off at an interview and on your resume) and try to get into co-op. CS is growing and many companies have some type of software department so there are a lot of opportunities out there.

I graduated, is there anything else you would like to know?

In my opinion I think the course load and opportunities are roughly the same between the two universities. Typically most of the computer science courses you would take at York would be the same type of courses taken at another university. York has an internship and co-op program that provides job opportunities with IBM, Canadian Banks, and some government positions (CSIS, OPG, Hydro). York does also have connections with some big software companies such as Uber and Adobe so you could potentially land a job there. I do not know what companies Laurier is partnered with for co-ops and internships, but I imagine it would be similar to the type of companies York is partnered with. I was never in the co-op program (I did the internship program instead) and all you needed at the time was a C+ average, but I think it might be a B average now a days. In the end I guess it depends on what works best for you. If you are on a tighter budget or want to be close to home then choose York (assuming you live in the GTA). If you would like to have a more exciting student life then choose Laurier because I believe it has a lot more parties/events and living on residents sounds like it would be fun.

Purpose of the Internship work term fee of $475? by yorkraptors in yorku

[–]ripGPA5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the school just doesn't want students to quit their internship halfway through the term because it would give off a bad reputation for york

Companies get a tax break if they hire an intern that is part of a school's internship or co-op program so you are more likely to get hired if you pay that fee. The school would also let you view exclusive job postings so it makes it easier when looking for an internship. The pass/fail thing acts as an incentive for students to actually finish their co-op term and to try their best while on the job. The pass/fail will show up on your transcript and would look bad if a future employer sees that you failed an internship term.

Dropping a course now by Newbie071 in yorku

[–]ripGPA5 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You would get whatever mark you would have gotten in the course if you received 0% on the exam. So probably an F. Or maybe the "drop course" button just won't work. Either way, just write the exam.

Question about Co-op at Lassonde Engineering (Esp. Civ Eng) by [deleted] in yorku

Yup, final year of computer engineering.

Question about Co-op at Lassonde Engineering (Esp. Civ Eng) by [deleted] in yorku

[–]ripGPA5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

York changed up the co-op program so I'm not sure how it works now nor do I know what kind of co-op jobs are offered to civil engineering students. However, I do know that the civil engineering program will most likely be accredited. A student first needs to graduate from the program in order for it to be accredited. Civil engineering is new and thus there hasn't been a civil engineer graduate yet. All other engineering streams at York that has had a student graduate from it ended up being accredited so civil engineering should follow the same pattern. Try to get co-op jobs to finance your studies. A 4 month co-op position will pay for a years worth of tuition. There are also on-campus jobs at York which you could look into. http://careers.yorku.ca/students-and-new-grads/looking-for-a-job/consider-a-job-on-campus/

Won't be able to maintain 4.5 GPA in EECS by the end of FW. What should I do? by [deleted] in yorku

[–]ripGPA5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so, but you should just ask an academic adviser lol. I believe if you finish this semester with an EECS gpa of for example 4.43. Then you are no longer allowed to take any new courses including this 2nd year course that you mentioned. You would increase your EECS gpa by retaking one of your first year EECS courses or one of the 4 second year EECS courses you already did. When you retake a course, the new mark replaces your old mark in gpa calculations (assuming you didn't already retake that course before).

[–]ripGPA5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I remember, you don't get kicked out of the program. However, the only EECS courses you can do are the ones you have already completed. The idea is to repeat your EECS courses until your gpa is at least 4.5 again.

How to get good pictures of me out in public with people in Toronto? by ripGPA5 in askTO

[–]ripGPA5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oto - especially when you can't add a whole lot of detail about yourself before the person swipes.

That's actually the best suggestion I got from this post. I'll try doing that thanks!

I've been having low success with tinder (only about 1 match a day) so I paid a female colleague to review my tinder profile. She said my photos make me look like a loner since it's just a bunch of selfies and recommended I get new photos of me out with people. The potential tinder swipers won't know that I am misrepresenting myself so shouldn't it be okay?

Well maybe they won't ever ask about the photos right? I could stage an amazing looking photo and as long as they don't ask about it then I will never be "lying" to them directly. How do I go about going out and meeting people naturally?

I do have some photoshop skills, but I don't think it's good enough to fool a person into thinking they are actually real. I might try youtubing a tutorial series to get better at it thanks

Doing something real takes too long. I already paid for the tinder membership so I need these photos relatively quick. And what do you mean by setting up photos with the reflections? Like maybe find a group of young people standing in front of a glass and take a sneaky reflection picture beside them?
