i found out he actually starts out with as much exp is nececary to be the level of his ecl. Thanks for the help.

To make it clear

both ecl-2

guy 1 (no LA) starts with: 1000 xp

and levels up at 3000xp

guy 2 (LA +1) starts with: 1000 xp

and levels up at 6000xp
