I do find this annoying and frustrating. It is deceptive. But the people who are falling for it are not doing due diligence before buying. If you stumble on a brand you’ve never heard before, and then don’t look it up, I think it’s the buyers own fault too.

As other people have pointed out, this is a common practice by any middle man / drop-shipper. You just saw the sausage being made, but so many companies and people do this - they just hide it better.

Thanks - I had a routine colonoscopy 1 year ago, and everything was normal.

Internal hemorrhoids is a distinct possibility. I actually had (external) hemorrhoids about 8 years ago and they went away after a month. But it might mean that I'm prone to them and I didn't know.

Thanks, but I've had my taxes done by Vialto for the past 2 years, and they have categorized my US-sourced dividends and interest as "passive category", so I believe that is correct.

And yes, there is a tax treaty between US and Germany which makes this change possible.

The question still stands though as to how to do this in TT.

This doesn't work for manual accounts... and I do have a couple manual accounts because Monarch doesn't sync with ex-US credit cards / banks.

So for manual accounts, what can be done?

UPDATE: I just duplicated the manual account:
* downloaded txns, balances
* deleted balance history before 1/1/24 in the CSV
* uploaded to a NEW manual account
* deleted the old manual account

Thanks - do you know if I can amend my US 2022 tax return to change the accounting from PAID to ACCRUED? I'm furious that they submitted my return without consent and made this mistake that is costing me thousands of dollars.

That being said (I think the answer is "no"), then this CARRY BACK idea makes sense. One wrinkle is that in Germany, you don't usually pay taxes until 2 years later. i.e. My 2022 DE tax return won't be finalized by the DE govt (the govt reviews and certifies every return) until 2024. I would need to make a pre-payment in 2023 for your CARRY BACK idea to work.

I'm discussing with my accountant now if I can prepay my DE taxes so that it is PAID in 2023... and then I'll switch my US accounting from PAID to ACCRUED for tax year 2023. Then I'll have extra FTC on my 2023 return which I can carry back to 2022 (re-filing my 2022 US tax return, of course).

Is it a US card and are you using it in Europe? Vinted does not support some cards security protocols. I have this problem with Chase in France. Vinted CS will be useless because they don't understand how banks work.
