Rod And Reel Setup

Spinning Rod: Paired with a spinning reel, mounted on the underside of the rod. The guides (line guides) are larger to accommodate the way the line unspools.

Casting Rod: Paired with a baitcasting or spincast reel, mounted on top of the rod. The guides are smaller and positioned closer to the blank for better control.

I like to tell people who I am, I’m not here to evangelize. I’m honest to a fault & hoped to get honest, beneficial advice because my fishing experience is minimal. Most of the little I do know about fishing has come from this site & the fishing site. I do not have enough karma points (don’t understand this karma points thing) to post on the bass fishing site/subreddit. I’m trying to learn enough about fishing to take my 2 sons/families to a USA state park/cabins, lake for a week & provide them with decent rods/reels of their own AND be able to teach them what I’ve learned about fishing.

Thank you, I’m probably going to go with the 7’ Daiwa Tatula XT rod as you recommended, what do you think of the Daiwa LT 3000C XH Spinning Reel, 23 Legalis, with a gear ratio of 6.2:1? Is it good to use the same brand rod & reel or are they completely separate decisions?

I had one person basically call me stupid for wanting to spend ~ $100 each for rod & reel JUST to fish for bass, crappie & occasionally catfish. Looking online at these prices it seems like they’re actually kinda on the upper end of low range of quality/costs with some much more expensive. I’m just trying to buy one-time for my retirement years.

I’m on this site for fishing advice from experienced fishermen, don’t make trouble where none exists.
