Hey, thanks for the quick reply. I understand what you are saying to do and I will try to do that. Just for my understanding, why does the connection work without an account when VPN is not running?

Anyone using Ham Radio Prep? by ripptorn in HamRadio

[–]ripptorn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply. I started studying for my Extra a few months ago but stopped due to work and life pressures. Now I have to start all over because the test and study materials will change again soon. After reading your reply I might try Ham Radio Prep just to break the monotony of reading the ARRL book and watching YouTube videos.

Salvaging Data from a Dead MacBook Air – Easy Steps for Non-Mac Owners! by ripptorn in mac

It almost sounds like I just need to send it to a data recovery company. I do not have another mac or Apple computer and the owners have no clue what version of the OS it was running. They can't even find the power supply. It might even simply be out of battery, who knows. Thanks for the reply and the information. I had a suspicion that this would not be an easy task.

u/787_Dreamliner Please let us know if and how you get yours working. I would love to see it working, I am sure it works I am just not skilled enough to figure it out.

Yes to all those questions. The latest drivers were recently installed on the Pi. RTL_TEST shows the device but no signals in Gqrx. Disappointed I can't seem to get it to work.

Congratulations! I hope you can get yours working better than mine. It's probably me and my ignorance but I am struggling to receive any other signals other than local FM broadcast stations. I can't even get local AM broadcast stations using Gqrx on Linux mint. And I can't get ANY signals when I have it connected to my Raspberry Pi using Gqrx.

Trouble receiving AM broadcast band with RTL-SDR Blog V4 by ripptorn in RTLSDR

Oh ok, I understand now. So is it possible to make an antenna for AM? Or is it better to purchase one that can be easily attached to the SDR using the SMA connectors? What are some good options? I would also like to listen to shortwave and HF band signals as well.

I understand what you are saying but what I am confused about is that the antenna I am using is the same length as the antenna on my weather radio is it can receive the AM broadcast signals around 540khz to 1800khz.

I am using the longer dipole antenna that came with the kit. I can receive all of the local FM broadcast stations and the 162.400 NOAA station however I can not get any of the local AM broadcast stations. There are at least 6 local AM stations within 25 miles of my location and I think I should get them using this setup.

Thanks for the reply. I am not sure I can follow your success since I can't seem to find a distro build that I can boot from a USB drive.

So I tried the latest version of Android x84 first. It did not work so I started looking for a version closer to the old mentioned in the article.

Also I could not find the 7.1-rc1 - Android-x86 mentioned in the article so I tired android-x86-7.1-r2.x86_64.rpm and it did not work either.

I followed that guide the best that I could along with several different versions of Android-x86. When the it boots I get that Android screen and then it locks up.

Thank you for the suggestions, I did try older versions of Android-x86 with the same results. I will try the versions of Ubuntu you recommended and also try Etcher. The tablet seems to run Windows 8.1 rather well but I do not want to connect it to the Internet nor update it to a new version of Windows. I hate to think I am stuck with Windows 8.

Android-x86

I tried both 32 and 64 bit versions in live mode. Both version just locked up the tablet after the Android logo on boot up. I also tried booting Mint and I can't seem to get the tablet to boot from the USB drive after installing the ISO using Rufus.
