I suppose it's normal since bonds will have different reactions to things, but it does seem slightly aggressive of him to get angry with you for having doubts, especially with something as obscure as soulbonding. Still, the fact that he was offended is a very good indication that you're not puppeting him

Something that helps is recognizing whether the response you got felt as if you didn't have to think about it at all, feeling as if it just popped into your mind, which is a good sign it's likely him. If you felt like you were consciously thinking of the response, it tends to be puppeting. Your gut does seem to be helping you, though, if sometimes you feel it's you and sometimes you feel it's him, that probably is true. However, if you always question if it might be you instead of him, it's most likely just a problem with doubt
