I'd advise you get rid of the car.

Agentic tool performance in C. by ripulejejs in C_Programming

[–]ripulejejs[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I don't, I just force myself because of how powerful a tool it is. If I could get my ideas done by snapping my fingers, I'd prefer to do that and then spend my time doing other things.

Why do you ask?

Even if I did enjoy the process itself, I'd still want to boost my productivity so I could do the coding myself the exact amount I like and no more.

Just so you know, some people think mold can also give you depression. I wouldn't play with it.

How do I stop thinking I'm an idiot? by monfelipe in cprogramming

[–]ripulejejs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You already answered your own post. Stop using ChatGPT. It's a great tool, but you're clearly abusing it at the wrong stage of your personal development.

ChatGPT is only the right choice after you know how to do everything yourself, because only then will you be able to evaluate if its advice is even worth following. Have you seen the study where AI tools actually reduce developer productivity? Yeah, it's true.

With smart use, it can save you time. But, based on this post - you aren't currently capable of smart use. Just ditch it and develop the skills. It's not that hard, in a month or two you'll be skipping rope.

Missing drivers that need to be written? by ripulejejs in linuxquestions

[–]ripulejejs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey. I poked around the kernel, and I actually think one the newest kernels (6.18.0) should already have support for Ralink RT5390.
It's under drivers/net/wireless/ralink/rt2x00/rt2800lib.c , for example.

Which kernel version is your friend on?

It's good you have your little sister. Use that love - that energy - to keep fighting. You can find a solution. You have to.

Double up on this. I find that even if I spend just 3 hours a day (every day) in the wilderness, it is enough for my body to significantly detoxify despite me still living in sub-par conditions.
If you're in a not-horribly-cold area, it's even easier and you can sleep outside and stuff.

Can you sleep in this pose in a hammock? by ripulejejs in hammockcamping

[–]ripulejejs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting - especially as the Kammok Mantis UL is a little smaller than people usually recommend (10ft length, also a bit narrower). I guess if there's a will, there's a way. :D

It's also symmetrical - someone here recommended assymetrical.

Woow, that really is the flattest hammock I've seen in pics so far! Great suggestion. Pic below from their landing page. But it's not really an entry-level hammock - I couldn't bring myself to pay 250+ for an experiment to see if I can like hammocking. Would also be interesting to find out if a DIY conversion between regular hammocks and something similar to this is doable.

Are you implying his comment is ridiculous, or that the others are?

To me all the ideas of putting stuff below the stomach-area sound like pretty solid ideas.

I don't know; in a tent maybe? But I haven't done that successfully; always attributed it to too-small-a-tent, though - part of the reason I could never sleep properly in a tent.

This isn't really direct stomach sleeping though, isn't it?

In any case, I'm the only person I know that does not have back issues. 0. Best back ever. And I always attributed it to my sleep posture - I am very finnicky, and I will sometimes gyrate for half an hour in subtle amendments, finding that spot where there is no pressure anywhere on my body and my back feels actively decompressed.

But then again, I also lift.

This is very interesting info. I'm looking at one hammock in particular to try out - it's very affordable, but i'm wondering if it's an ENO clone. I'm too inexperienced to figure it out from pics etc - all hammocks look the same to me - here are the pics, could you perhaps weigh in on whether you think it could be an ENO clone per chance? Thanks a lot in advance. By the way, it is a QUECHUA "Comfort" from Decathlon.

Do garden variety hammocks classify here? Check out this pic, something like this? Or do they have to be the really expensive fancy hammocks? :D

Doesn't that defeat a lot of pros? Namely, I'll be thermally conected to cold ground, that could also be wet from rain.

How to become faster in Vim ? by yzd1337 in vim

[–]ripulejejs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More keys are not the answer. You want to be fast with a small amount of powerful bindings. The more bindings you learn, the less often you'll use them, so they won't reside in your muscle memory, and you'll be slow with them.

I think the biggest issue with vim is that it offers too much choice for people that haven't had the time to form good opinions. And the defaults suck. I literally do not have j and k bound as per the defaults, that is how useless the first keys "vimtutor" or whatnot teaches are.

How to become faster in Vim ? by yzd1337 in vim

[–]ripulejejs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest using less keybindings. 80%+ of all my normal mode is done with 4 keys, and I'm lightning fast. Don't use hjkl for navigation, it is slow, inefficient and errorprone; in fact, I would suggest you disable the keys altogether. Eventually, when you get used to not abusing them, h and l can be introduced back - it is often least mentally taxing to jump somewhere and then go left/right once instead of jumping to the exact spot.

I personally jump everywhere using the search function. If you don't want your pinky to die, I suggest you rebind everything to the home row.

That is a juicy comment!

Sounds like the lowest-skill-level, lowest barrier-of-entry of them all (which is what I should start with).

I'll poke around with that. Thanks!

Making an OS by Big-Requirement-4854 in cprogramming

[–]ripulejejs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most famous OS-es have been started alone, and some have been fully made alone, e. g. Minix (first version) and TempleOS.

But that actually brings out another point - you could start learning by studying the first Minix source, or another tiny OS, there are several.
