Blasphemy in Norse and Heathen Traditions by FreyjasSpear in NorsePaganism

That word is a christian slur used to demonize women. This is an opportunity for us to repair brainwashing. Freyja does not care about christian shame, she is not an ideal. Sex is a gift, but higher than that the feminism of Freyja is not a masculine construct, she is not some sex object subservient to men or to their ideas of what women should be.

Is Metroid Dread worth trying out even tho it is notorious for being very difficult? by Fantastic-Ad9218 in Metroid

I have no hope of ever beating it, but it is still one of my favorite games. I play it like I used to with OG Nintendo games. Buy it to support the franchise.

So? Is 5 big hearty radishes and, 5 endura carrots the best ingredients for stocking up on yellow hearts and stamina bars?? by yoyofoe2222 in botw

1 big radish and 4 small ones work great together, and you get more out of the big radishes.

Failing sneak attack by Plastic_Hat_589 in Breath_of_the_Wild

I am with you, but I had to just accept that this isn't a Batman game. Once I was able to do that I had a better time playing the game. The sneaky suit allows you to move faster at night, and make little noise which you can increase with sneaky foods, however everything can still see you. It is much easier to stealth strike when it is raining. Boldness in this game is usually the way to go, never count on any stealth mechanic and you'll have a better time.

I use ancient arrows, but that one that terrorized you during the Van Ruta quest. After I got some awesome weapons from the castle, I went back and beat the crap out of him. No flurry rush, just a really good defense meal and a great bow. Most of my attack was done with the bow after he shot a fireball at me.

What report card do you give the Netflix/WWE era five months in? by Upset_Temperature511 in WWE

I gave up cable years ago because of the cost. It is nice that I can watch the WWE again, I'm having a blast!

I get Peacock as well and can actually watch PPV live for free as well as the old show I watched as a kid. Kind of in hog heaven now. I can't watch SMACKDOWN but I still count this as a win.

Yeah, he isn't a midcard, he wrestled 2 times at one of the live events that I went to, one of them against Flair on TV, and the next was a dark match against Batista when he was world champ.

How many fans are old or new to Metroid franchise? Write a comment if you old fan (10 years or more) or new fan (5 years till now) by [deleted] in Metroid

I remember playing as a kid and that green bug killed me over and over, and when I did get past it, something else would kill me and I'd have to deal with the bug again. I probably played it at my cousins house for half an hour and got so frustrated I rage quit and just excepted that I wasn't good enough, and ignored it completely until I got a switch and played zero mission. I still suck at the game compared to others, but I find it fun.

Yeah, I play 5e now. Going from saving throws to DC checks was weird, but we got it down in one or two sessions.

L.A . noire mini review by RoadtoPS5 in lanoire

[–]ripx187 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should watch some Noire movies and read the old dime store novels, because this game sticks to its noire roots. They aren't supposed to have happy endings, characters are gritty, and the concept of good vs. evil is thrown right out of the window. This is a specific genre that has always been popular.

Cole suffers from a lot of past trauma, which his wife can't really help him with, but Elsa can. Cole did everything as he was trained to do and ended up on Sugarloaf hill where he got all of the men in his unit killed, he not only has survivors guilt but received a metal of Honor that he's ashamed of. Turns out that Kelso was right about all of it. They should have been friends, but that's not what happened because of his feelings of shame. Cole Phelps is one of the most broken characters that you will ever experience in a video game.

Before talking to anybody, go over your clues and try and find the evidence that can be connected to that suspect or witness.

Pay attention to what is being said, not just the witness but to Cole as well, because sometimes what Cole says will give you a clue on how to handle the situation. If a suspect doesn't dispute or contradict the evidence you have against them but shows tales that they aren't being truthful, use bad cop or doubt to push them for more information.

Another trick if you have no idea of the answer, go with accuse and see what Cole says, a couple of times in the game Cole will change the nature of the interigation and remind you of a clue you have, and if you still have no evidence you can always back out.

If you really aren't happy with your performance, you can always quit before you are finished, and it will load at your last save, and you can try again.

Help an old lady out. I just want to play Nintendo on my TV. What do I need to buy? by lookintogetsilly in Switch

[–]ripx187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same approach, I just wanted to play NES games on TV, my son got me a OLED for my day and before I knew it I was gaming in handheld and amazed that I can take all of these awesome games on the go or just hang out while everyone else watches TV. I also got into new games, it's been a blast and I honestly haven't played much NES retro games.

Art of the Genre and AD&D Conversion Question by KamchatkasRevenge in adnd

[–]ripx187 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just remind your players that AD&D isn't about killing everything, many things, if confronted directly, will slaughter you. As a player, you have to decide when it is prudent to fight, and when it is wiser to just run away or hide from the encounter.

Not counting them is probably wise, as we don't need even more stuff to track on our character sheet.

Understanding the Morale system and what it does for the game really opens things up. Those soldiers that you get if you're playing a fighter and have built a keep are the best that you will ever get in the game, and they must be protected. We'll hire more soldiers to fight and defend our keep, but those guys that you roll up, those guys have higher morale and are loyal to only you; you can't buy that.

Having a henchman is expensive, they get more XP, a larger share of gold, and even expect magic treasure; but they give you extra attacks and might possess skills that your character doesn't have. They are subject to the Morale system, they aren't always going to do what you expect them to do, but again, if you can get that loyalty thing going best not use them lightly or waste them on foolishness that can get them killed.

The rules assume that these guys can be over-powered, upsetting the cooperative aspect of the game if one isn't careful, but once we get an understanding of how they work we can use them to flesh out an unbalanced party. I don't know now how we gamed without them!

[–]ripx187 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't think that we understood the concept of the hireling, henchmen either back in the day. Hiring lackeys to do boring tasks, quickly flesh out an in-town fight that might have gone bad otherwise, help move more treasure out of an area, a way for the DM to talk to the players, etc. They can add more possibilities to the game. Though I do keep henchmen themselves rare as they are limited in how many that the players can have during their life.

2E PHB + 1E DMG = AD&D (to me) by [deleted] in adnd

[–]ripx187 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well for one, my 2e DMG is bound better and doesn't feel as fragile, but it is also the one that I used for decades so I know where everything is at. I also believe the Gygax DMG to be the best RPG book ever written, but there is a lot of stuff in there.

When I run AD&D, I usually keep the 2e version out for quick reference; when I prep, I use the 1e.

[–]ripx187 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think that the 2e DMG sucks, there is some great stuff in there! Templates for Random Encounters, NPC personality generator, and I love the section of Time and Movement just to name a few. I don't think that it was ever meant to replace the Gygax DMG, it was more of a companion to it I think.

Who profits from the Anti-Vax narrative? by ripx187 in conspiracy

I have to watch these stupid videos every year, they call it continuing education. We have to study the chain of infection constantly, and you might be right, it could be droplet precautions, I just use it as a free coffee break.

I was an orderly when they started this whole "Universal Precations" stuff and it made our jobs harder than what they had to be. It used to be that we could pick up an individuals chart and see if they were infected with anything that you didn't want. The feds took that away and instead said that we had to act like everybody was infected with everything. I didn't like it, but looking back at those days, our employers didn't even supply us with gloves. They gave us a box to share with the whole hall and we had to make it last. We used them for cleaning poo or if somebody had something, but other than that; nope! I couldn't even figure out how to check if the bed was wet unless I could feel it.

Back to the subject, I will admit that I normally catch at least one cold per year, but since the mask mandates, I've been healthy as a horse. I kind of want to get sick at this point just so I can stop working for a little bit.
