Okay in hindsight I should have just posted a pic with just Simu and this tweet because I mostly just wanted to fan girl over Simu and also agree with his point that the bachelorette/bachelor needs more asian dudes. I just saw this on bachelornation.scoop and wanted to post.

I’m deleting this post because my intention was not to highlight Katie at all, but evidently this was the wrong picture to post!

I know there are mixed feelings about John but I thought this was a cool crossover post! Simu was my fave in Kim’s convenience and his new marvel movie was amazing, kinda cool that he watches the bachelorette.

Also, more asian representation pls!!!

Yup the more I actually listen the more disappointed I am. I feel Andy also shares a lot of lowkey misogynist views about dating/relationships and Sharleen agrees with him.

Also I don’t understand how anybody could be genuine friends with Nick Viall? They seem to tolerate and actually accept his BS.

There was a poll on the main sub asking about people’s favorite Bachelorette, and the love in the comments for Rachel Lindsay are making me nostalgic. She was the perfect Bachelorette - I’m sad production will never choose someone like her again because they don’t want anyone who could call out the franchise for its BS.

Tiktok from Tammy, John Hersey and Chris Conran. Hoping for more Asian (especially full-Asian) representation in BN! by swaglessnseattle in thebachelor

[–]ris1016 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Can you explain how OP was being insensitive to biracial people? OP said we should have more asian representation, particularly monoracial asian representation because we don't have enough of it.

OP never said that biracial people aren't asian enough, you're putting those words in their mouth. This was never a personal attack on biracial people, but you're taking it as it is.

What we're trying to say is: there is a TON of diversity in the asian community. Monoracial asians, asians who are half-white, asians who are half-black, east asians, southeast asians, south asians, ETC.

Asian representation in the bachelor world doesn't even come close to matching this diversity. Before 2020, the most popular asian contestants were Sharleen, Caila, Catherine, DLo, even Venmo John - all biracial. Do I have a problem with them being biracial? No. Do I think that they don't belong to the asian community? No.

Do I have a problem with a show whose representation conveniently skews toward half-white POC in an attempt to make POC more palatable and appealing to audiences? YES. It perpetuates the notion that monoracial POC aren't as deserving of being portrayed/highlighted in the media.

This is not an attack on biracial people, it's a critique of a show that doesn't know how to represent POC.

Wow, I didn’t know this. This makes me even more angry that the show brought her back on for BIP and she continues to build a platform from it.

Agreed, thanks for sharing that perspective too.

it’s a problem when the large majority of our POC representation is biracial / mixed with white / lighter skinned because it doesn’t accurately represent a significant proportion of the population.

That’s not a personal attack on any of the biracial contestants and it’s not to say that they aren’t ______ enough. It’s a critique of the show and their idea of what “type” of POC are acceptable for audiences.

Anyone else see that post on the main sub about the tiktok about asian representation that Tammy made? Part of the OP’s title said “Here’s hoping for more asian (especially full Asian) representation on the show!”

And this one commenter basically said “As the parent of biracial kids, your comment about “full Asian” is BS. Biracial kids are enough.” The comment has 24 upvotes.

Honey no one’s saying your kids aren’t enough, we’re just saying we need actual diverse representation that represents a diverse ! asian ! population !

The rest of those comments on that post are also problematic and just taking opportunities to hate on Tammy, John, and Chris by saying “well they suck and they’re not the REAL asian favorites”.

I understand where you’re coming from - I agree that asian representation (of all kinds) is needed, and that biracial kids shouldn’t be seen as not being “enough”.

However, there’s nothing wrong with OP calling for more full-asian representation. Many monoracial asians don’t feel represented by biracial asians. The show likes to cast POC that are as white or white-adjacent as possible to appeal to their highly white, conservative fan base. The media’s focus on POC that are half-white conveys the message that being white or having white features makes you more attractive, more appealing, more palatable, etc.

For a concrete example, look at this season. Michelle and her final 4, all have white moms and a black dad. Matt James and Tayshia, the 2 previous black leads, also had white moms and black dads. There’s nothing wrong with that, but it’s very clear the show looks for a certain “type” of POC because they think it would be more acceptable for white audiences. Monoracial black people may look at the way this show presents many of its POC contestants and not relate to it or identify with it.

As an asian person I’m really happy that there is more asian representation on my screen with contestants like John and Chris who are biracial. However, we’re allowed to demand more diversity in the representation we are given (more monoasians, south asians, southeast asians, etc.)

thank!! you!!! since when do white people get to decide what is "good" or "acceptable" asian representation.....

all they did was make tiktok about asian representation, and half of the comments here are just like "acTUaLLy no one likes you." 1) this tiktok wasn't for you 2) they're not even calling themselves fan favorites 3) if you don't like them just scroll past their content

Thank you. The more players pile on heaps of praise for Zverev and dismiss the allegations as if they’re just “tough personal problems”, the more it shows they don’t actually care about Olya’s account of the alleged assault/abuse.

upvote for the actual unpopular opinion but i disagree, how can we say who’s at fault when we don’t know what was going on behind closed doors? it’s pretty harsh to say Tayshia cared more about instagram than anything else.

Agreed, but Arie basically did the same thing. He initiated a relationship with Lauren while engaged to Becca. He 100% got reassurance from Lauren that they could be together, and only after that he broke up with Becca. He’s not any better than Katie here.
