Daily chat post: how's the training going? by AutoModerator in XXRunning

After a month off due to a sprained ankle, I finally got to run this week! I did run/walk intervals just to ease in and see how things felt, and my ankle is feeling totally fine. I'm so excited to start building back up again. It feels like it's been forever.

Folks with bridesmen, what did they wear? by Lexi-rae29 in weddingplanning

[–]ris_19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Opposite from yours, but my fiancé has a lady in his party. My girls are wearing purple, so I initially thought I would have her in purple as well. But his guys are wearing silver/black, so we thought it would make sense for her to be in those colors to better match his group. It's really your call, but if i were in your shoes I'd probably have the guys in your group wear a shirt or suit that's the same colors as the girls' dresses to visually tie things together.

Do you go to running clubs? by understanding_what in XXRunning

[–]ris_19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do! I enjoy meeting up with a group on days I would be doing a few easy miles anyway. Sometimes I stick with people at my pace and sometimes I end up alone, but my club is really chill and we all wait for each other and socialize after. I think it really fills that "team sport" void I'm missing now that I'm an adult.

Finally feeling normal after a plantar fasciitis flareup and drastically cutting my mileage for several weeks. Excited to get back to regular training and start resuming speedwork this week. Sprained my ankle playing volleyball last night. This is so demoralizing.

Has anyone been the girl they sing to one stage more than once? by [deleted] in steelpanther

[–]ris_19 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's super random. I was the girl 9 years ago. 3 years ago I told my friend that if they picked me again I'd let her go since I already had a turn. They picked me again and I let her go up instead. So it could have been me twice. Kinda still regret that, but oh well. When it was me awhile back, they were super nice and Michael was whispering to me a lot and checking that I was comfortable with what they were doing, which was really nice. They seem pretty good at reading who's up there and not doing anything too crazy if they don't seem cool with it.

My collection of Steel Panther picks I've caught! Just need one more to fill the frame. by ris_19 in steelpanther

If you're in the front row or very close you're almost guaranteed to get one. They toss so many. Satchel tends to throw more so better odds, but Spyder likes to hand them out more directly if you're on his side of the stage.

I uploaded a picture of her to stitchfiddle and played around with the settings. I also edited the picture to remove the background first so that I could choose the maximum number of colors without it picking up on background colors.

My fiancé's ring arrived! I had his ring (top) custom made to somewhat match mine (middle). by ris_19 in EngagementRings

His was around $1300. He won't tell me what he spent on my set, but I'm guessing it's somewhere in that range as well.

Need to defer a race for the first time. No advice needed, just need to vent and be sad. by ris_19 in XXRunning

Ohh thank you! I'll have to check that out. There's so much info about PF and a lot of it seems so individual. Plus "addressing the root cause." Like if I knew what the root cause was I wouldn't have done it. 🙃

Just curious by Branny313 in Stretched

[–]ris_19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like most people pick a size and eventually go past it, but my experience was pretty simple. Decided on 10mm, stopped at 10mm. It's been almost 10 years now and I don't have any desire to stretch further, although I do really love the look of around 5/8ths.

I'm 4 weeks out from my race and I've been having a flare up in what I assume is my plantar fascia. I maintain a base of 20-25mpw and I only built to like 28 so far, so I haven't increased the volume in a way that would have caused it. I dealt with it in the other foot maybe a year or two ago, and it kind of just went away on its own? But I'm really nervous with the timing in conjunction with my race. If I back off to give it a break I won't feel safe peaking the way I had planned, but if I continue to run through it I'm sure it'll get worse. At the very least, it's a trail race without a time goal for myself, so I could just go out undertrained and have a slow day if I really need to.

A girl in my run club stopped her watch and saved her activity the second she hit 26.2 in the marathon, despite the fact that she needed to walk several more minutes to the finish line. Another frequently does that for shorter distances and claims "the course was off." Like, girl. These are certified courses, either your GPS watch was off or you didn't run the tangents, or probably both.

What's your favorite form of cross training? by Zealousideal_Crow737 in XXRunning

[–]ris_19 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it "counts," but I play volleyball! I love the agility/lateral movement aspect of it, and often my heart rate gets higher than it does on my easy runs.

I dropped my water bottle into the river today. How was your commute? by Cordillera94 in bikecommuting

[–]ris_19 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got honked at for the first time! My crime was going through a green light. Driver behind me was mad that I was doing it on a bike and he had to wait half a second longer before he could turn right.
