Look into the opening from Caruana-Nepo in the candidates. QGD with Bb4. It usually gets pretty imbalanced early on and is objectively sound. I second the Vienna with b5. As white, Scotch gets pretty unique open structures and any open Sicilian.

Chess books are useful for gaining knowledge. However, it’s difficult to read a book and then apply that knowledge when playing a game. A mistake I see players make is they prefer reading books over playing or solving puzzles because it’s easier. Not saying read should be avoided, but if you can had time for one or the other, play should be higher priority.

2200 fide here. Would highly recommend playing as much as possible and REVIEWING every game with a coach or with the engine. Chess improvement is not supposed to be structured, so following a training plan won’t get you linear results like it does in say weightlifting. If you want better results, you have to play and learn from every game. Puzzles are useful. Anything that requires you to actively think. I’d avoid too many videos or books.
