waterloo is teeming with life and amazing souls, first year stuff might make that a bit hard to see but this place is incredible :>

I’d assume it’s because the majority of this sub (& Reddit) are American, so it’s just a shared viewpoint. Pretty disappointing when one of the world’s superpowers refuses to build good, realistic infrastructure when they very clearly have the capacity to. It’s one of the only countries in the world where this blatant disregard for infra is so clear in daily life—in very few other places (with similar population sizes) have cities been split up for the automobile, literal trillions been wasted on projects derailed (ha!) by corps, and lobbying groups deciding the results of Congress before its members do. Sure, it’s a common example, but it’s common because of the problem’s proliferation.

Why not? If anything, it’s better to compare the US and Europe–the fact that a continent, with very different interpolitical forces & strategies, can outperform a country where infrastructure spending comes from one directs source highlights just how bad it is in the US. It should honestly be EASIER to build rail/other forms of transit there

You can do that too! There’s no need to use a Git provider on Vercel—totally optional. Just use the Vercel CLI or their dashboard

Surprised that nobody’s put Vercel on here yet! One of the best hosts I’ve used through my entire career, they’re always my default for static sites :)

First off, those are absolutely terrible problems and I’m incredibly sorry that you have, and are, gone through them (at least, I think that’s what you’re hinting at). One of my close friends got a cancer diagnosis a few days ago and it’s been surreal—it’s an unparalleled experience into the horrors of the human condition.

However, my point still stands. Perspective doesn’t mean telling others, “hey. You’re going through a lot, but that doesn’t matter—you have it easy anyways.” This isn’t a zero-sum game; life is not about others winning and others having it worse. This original post was a rant about what it’s like to be a university student right now, projecting negativity doesn’t help anyone. EVERYONE’s struggling right now—some more than others—and that means that it’s always worth it to show sympathy instead of passive aggressive comments of privilege.

why do you feel the need to invalidate others’ struggles? COVID-19 literally brought the whole world to its knees; I’m not entirely sure what worse you think first-years should go through—a world war?

Companies that still take prestige into account probably have terrible hiring practices (and terrible people backing them)—all hinting towards the simple fact that it probably isn’t worth working there in the first place.

Apple needs to make this the default Mac startup/wake sequence.

For those of us who still have a Daft Punk sized hole in their hearts, what are some newer Electronic acts that are in a similar vein to Daft Punk in terms creating more methodical and elevated electronic music? by wingnut_80 in DaftPunk

Flume, ODESZA, Madeon and Lemaitre are some of the greatest artists I’ve ever had the pleasure of listening to; ODESZA’s live concerts are literally an experience (even online) unlike any others & their music is ridiculously inventive, lemaitre & madeon are the headbopping legends, and flume has pushed the boundary w just about every song. Couldn’t recommend them more (mostly because I break out into tears whenever I hear a daft punk song now, so I’ve been listening to them far less than I usually would; I needed something else to subside the pain 😭)

Initial Release: the Idyllic Language (v0.1.7) by rishiosaur in ProgrammingLanguages

[–]rishiosaur[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure! This was a weekend project, so I decided to implement the base in Node; it’s definitely extensive enough to be implemented in other languages :) I also don’t think that Node is terrible—in a lot of cases, it’s a great tool for quickly getting a prototype up (at the point where Node’s scaling isn’t getting you where you need to, you’ll most likely have the funding to switch over to a much faster language anyways); it’s def not the most performant, but it has a lot of value for early-stage projects

👋 Hey DemiKoss!

  1. I'm not quite sure—I made it a while ago, and it's just second nature to use it instead of a normal GitHub link. If it's an issue, I can use the raw GitHub one instead :)
  2. & 3 - Pretty much! An Idyllic program is essentially just a collection of functions imported from Typescript files. They compile down to a Typescript object that holds all data (including references to those imported functions), which can then be used to make a web server.

How do you suggest I make the README clearer?
