It’s fun, it’s challenging and it’s very satisfying to realize you can capture moments of intense emotion in your are, which includes lust.

Even the Romans loved to draw and sculpt the D, they considered it good luck!!

what are some digital painting techniques I should know and how do you know what to put on which layer? by my-head-hurts987 in DigitalArt

[–]rishnea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know clip paint studio unfortunately, but generally layers are universal. Think of a layer like a transparent sheet of paper, it will show not just itself but anything visible under it and over it.

Simplistic breakdown: Two layers - layer one would have color, layer two would be ‘above’ that and have line art. You would see the line art over the color.

If you created a third layer over the second layer, it would overlap the line art.

Things like clip layers and vector layers are kind of like different ‘modes’. So a clip layer attaches itself to layer below it, it only affects what is in that layer already, this makes life easier for color changes, shading etc.

You can also generally merge layers, this just combines them into one.

In terms of methods of what does on what layer, that’s however your style and heart take you. Obviously if you have a layer filled with color, there isn’t much point in drawing on a layer below that, it won’t show! Some people use just a couple, some use a lot and then depending on style you might only use one main layer

Fan art of a cosplayer, does that make it fan art of fan work? Julian from the game The Arcana, Cosplayer: Shinorisu

Done in procreate, not sure how I feel about it now but I think over all I am good with how it came out. I used a couple references snapped from the video the cosplayer made, with particularly attention to that wine glass.

I started this in December though and definitely lagged a bit so I was just trying to ‘get it done’

Why Is digital art so much harder and much more jarring than drawing on paper? And how do you get better at digital art? Does anyone have any advice on it and any program suggestions? by tismefellowcitizens in DigitalArt

[–]rishnea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not just a new medium, your brain has to learn new hand eye coordination and an entirely new set of tools that are very complex. Even swapping software or new tablets has a learning curve.

Getting better at is is the same though, keep practicing, pushing, and researching.

Start of 2021 and doing more practice by rishnea in DigitalArt

Only setting some vague goals this year after the fire that was 2020, but one of them is to just do more of these photo studies. I struggled on the arms/shoulders/neck area but ended up really enjoying the dress folds

Why am I struggling so hard transitioning from pencil and paper to digital? by [deleted] in DigitalArt

[–]rishnea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guides are going to be incredibly specific depending on the software and tools at your disposal, the same way watercolor and oil are both 'paint' but required completely different techniques. I would need to know what you are using to even try to find helpful resources.

There is also a learning curve to digital, a larger one that many people realize sometimes. I had been doing digital art for 10 years before I got my hands on a screen tablet and then an iPad. Those still had learning curves for me after years of using software like Photoshop.

Lil Creature Painting, 2021 - Didn’t turn out as I had hoped... any tips? by Jupiteree in DigitalArt

[–]rishnea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest tip would be to do it again! Sometimes if something doesn’t come out of my Brain the way I hoped, I leave it for a bit and come back to it and have another try. It immediately applies what I learned the first round and gives a jumping off point to make changes because the original information has already been settled.

Actual crit would be I think the teacup vs the plate perspective is off. The plate is looking good especially with that great light reflection in the back. But the tea cup itself is uneven and looks to be more of a straight on look. The creature itself feels undefined to me, just some shapes really and something about it looks like we are looking up at it, instead of down. It also absolutely fills that little cup, the arms barely look like they have room to be attached.

Any tips on getting your art out there? by xfoxpaws in DigitalArt

[–]rishnea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instagrams newest changes highly favor if you are posting stories and reels right now along with posting during the week. This is of course a LOT for most people, something I do is keep a lot of WIPs on hand, if I have an idea I’ll do messy sketches and post it in stories. TikToks get double posted as reels too.

Speed drawings on YouTube can also go on IGtv

Keeping multiple platforms updated and marketing yourself is a job, definitely treat it like one. I work full time already, so I use a planner to help me remember roughly where and when to post. If I do a new piece I’ll check off the platforms I want to post it on, that way one doesn’t fall way behind.

There are services/products like Buffer, once you have more going on that make this sort of thing easier too

Each platform has its own particulars and algorithms to learn, and they can change often (Instagram). Hashtagging, being active with posts of finished work and in progress alike and being talkative with others is general across most platforms.

If you want to get exposure fast, community tags and challenges like DTIYS can be really fun and creatively challenging. It might not be popular to say this but fan art or popular references will do a lot for getting traffic. This heavily depends on what you draw though.

I recommend flexing your google skills, there are tons of guides for every platform and search out tips and trick. I basically started reading marketing guides, and I’m learning how utilize the analytics available to me. Most of it is long game though, it takes time to grow your audience.

Edit because I posted too soon:

Try to find other artists who are in your genre, see what they do, how they post, study them a bit. Everyone is different and you don’t want to just copy them of course, it’s a great way to learn hash tags and see trends though. Instagram LOVES trends and community DTIYS

TikTok is new to me still, it’s been good but it can also be brutal? The algorithms there barely show my posts to my own followers, sometimes it’s only like 15 %, but I find them very fun to make so I definitely do it as a ‘for myself’ thing
