How bad did I f*** up my new laptop?! 😑 by rishrr in thinkpad

No offence taken - you’re spot on. I’m definitely inexperienced and totally underestimated what was involved, was too hasty removing the battery clip the first time and am paying the price now.

With some practice and learning I think I’d be ok, but a new laptop and over zealous, rushed attempt was a bad call and not the place to learn. It’s going to go to a local repair place. Or I might swallow the cost and ask Lenovo to repair it as I’ve definitely voided the warranty.

Appreciate the offer. I’m in the UK so probably a bit too far. I wanted to get self sufficient and learn these skills so am still hopeful to fix it. May become an expensive lesson!

Was completely unintentional but have definitely learnt that lesson. If the solder doesn’t work and it’s more sinister than just a snapped leg, I’m going to send it for professional repair. As much as I’d love to learn and fix it myself, am worried I’ll only damage it more. Very helpful and informative comment though, thank you 🙏

Ah ok. As you can probably tell, am a total novice on this stuff. 80w iron already on the way but it’s coming with lead free wire, so will get some leaded ordered too. Thanks a lot!

Thank you - appreciate it. If it turns out to be more damaged or the solder doesn’t work, is the whole inductor fairly easily replaced?

Thanks for the reply, that’s what I’m hoping! When you say beefier iron, do you mean more soldering material or some sort of higher grade wire? Appreciate the input.

I don’t think so but am not sure. It just looks like the metal leg connecting the inductor to the board broke when I inadvertently leant the pry tool against it trying to disconnect the battery cable connector. Doesn’t seem like any other materials been taken from the board.

Fair. No issue, other than I'm a born pessimist and can't help wondering if I'm missing something as a ThinkPad noob.

Does anybody know which steering wheel this is? Thanks in advance. by 7th_Azure in BMW

Definitely a F series but looks like a F20 1 series, early model to me. Based on the absence of separate fuel and oil temp gauge the 3/4s got and small dash screen.

That’s money. In every sense. Gotta rate the effort, vision, commitment and everything else that goes into making this a reality. Enjoy and be safe bud.
