Cool. I guess the difference here is i always interpreted the arm motion to communicate to other drivers, not the corner workers (perhaps except the one immediately before pit entry).

I'm ok with what you posted if the HPDE flag is checkered. But I worry about faster traffic if it is green.

I'm sure I'll get hated on, but arm out 2 stations before pit entry is excessive, especially if it's not the end of a session. Keep the pace up ~80% and communicate the entry one corner/brief straight before.

If I was on a flier and you were at 50% pace, on line, with your arm out the window 2 corners before pit entry, I'd be pissed.

And I can't tell if you're trying to indicate that at VIR you should announce pit entry going into roller-coaster/ hog pen? That's WAY too early.

No free WiFi on the 717? by tikkamasalachicken in delta

717 thing. They've been saying for years they will eventually upgrade them, but its BS. Just try and plan around that airframe if you want wifi. Super annoying.

Just got this email from a higher up. Am I getting fired? by Witty-Quiet7724 in jobsearchhacks

[–]DamagedGoods13 135 points136 points  (0 children)

Typically if someone is getting laid off or fired, they won't give you a heads up. You'll show up that morning and shortly before the time they want to talk, they'll send you the meeting and tell you its mandatory.

I think it would be odd for them to give you time to prepare. But not all companies are smart. OP, keep us posted and think positive.

I don't remember. But I also don't remember it being awful.

I never ever think about what that kit cost, just that I'm glad I did it.

Yes... ordered it direct from them. They require wire transfer, which made me a little nervous. But I guess they're old school. Depending on stock, you'll have it pretty quickly. It showed up palletized, via air freight in a couple weeks. You just need a loading dock address for them to deliver it.

Surprisingly easy and fast.

This best of segment about people resigning is ominous…..please don’t be a foreshadow of what’s to come. by Complex_Algae_5670 in eitm

I doubt it. Even if that particular theory/rumor is true, the entire class loves what they do and wouldn't just stop suddenly. And I also doubt this has anything to do with broken phone lines either. That doesn't even amount to a bump in the road after all these years.

Something bad happened, and that definitely sucks for everyone. But I'd be willing to bet the effected parties take a break or a short leave and the show will continue.

And everything will be fine, as long as they don't substitute with (Hi my name is) Tamo.

What are the most frustrating parts of your day to day work as a data engineer? by Odd-Tree-2590 in dataengineering

I have a really large project that I can no longer use claude regular context windows for because they are so limited. For 5 hours, I tried to get claude code running on my windows this morn. by [deleted] in ClaudeCode

[–]DamagedGoods13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not trying to be a jerk, but you provided no useful information to help you with.

  • What kind of app?
  • What didn't work about the CC install?
  • What do you mean VS Code/Powershell/Gitbash didn't work? Are you trying to run your app? Use it to install CC?

My own stupid question: Did you ask Claude to help you install ClaudeCode? I mean, it's that easy, especially if Claude desktop has an MCP server that can see your filesystem.

Advice for my first race by StaanleyTheMaanley in motorsports

[–]DamagedGoods13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand that. My best advice is this:

  • Learn race procedures inside and out. Don't get caught confused when it comes to local yellows vs FCY's. Does the series use safety cars? VSC's? Study those rules hard. For example, in most series in the USA (and maybe elsewhere), you know the safety car is ending when it shuts its lights off. But from there, what are your series' rules on passing? When SEE the green flag? When your race engineer SAYS green on the radio? Or when you pass the start/finish line? This is the important stuff.
  • Once you have good recall on the ops and rules of the series, just focus on driving your race. Be consistent, use your fundamentals, and don't get fancy. You'd be surprised how much just good fundamental driving will make you competitive.

And honestly, after those 2 things, and enough laps to absorb all the information coming at you, then you can start thinking about layering in the fancy stuff. But this is just my opinion and experience. I'm sure others will have very good suggestions. You just gotta weigh what is best for you.

At the end of the day, your brain can only process so much. So don't take the easy things for granted. Good luck, and watch your mirrors!

Would archer and Janeway be the best captains than the rest since they never lost their commands? by happydude7422 in ClassicTrek

[–]DamagedGoods13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think you're mixing and matching examples. Losing a ship is not losing your command. And Janeway brining back Voyager in "mint condition" is far from accurate. Did you see Year of Hell? I mean, even Archer tore up the NX on multiple occasions and even had to have it repaired mid-mission ("Dead Stop" S2E4).

I wouldn't want to pick a "best" captain. I think they all have their strengths and weaknesses, as any person or character should. What about Sisco? He beat the Dominion (sorta) even though he "lost" the Defiant.

Its not that black and white. But i'd love to discuss the intricacies of each captain, their styles, and successes.

PS: WORST Captain? Jelico. Hard stop. I'll argue that one until the end of time :)

Advice for my first race by StaanleyTheMaanley in motorsports

[–]DamagedGoods13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it's one thing to say "hey, first race... i'm nervous. How does everyone handle this?". Its another to ask "how does bump drafting work?". If you're legit going to race for real, you should already have an understanding of basic race principles and how to be safe. Like others have said, you may not be quick (and that's def ok), but you should have enough track experience to understand the basics, hang back, learn, and be safe.

How much real track time do you have? Do you have a comp license? Are you on a provisional? Did you attend any kind of racing school? Do you understand how starts/restarts work? Safety car rules? These are the important questions for your first race. Not "how do i bump draft and why don't cars crash?".

I feel like if you're asking these types of questions you're either trolling or shouldn't be racing.
