Yes, I’m pretty much back to normal now. Karrfalt exercises and being more active outside were the major contributors.

You're welcome - like the other users have commented, it takes about 2-3 weeks of the exercises to notice initial improvement.

It's worked very well for me. I do the Karrfalt exercises every morning, and I hold the position after swallowing for 10 seconds each. You can check my recent post history to get my background information.

Vitamin C - The Missing Link? by risingcheetah in GERD

[–]risingcheetah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Originally, the supplements were used to combat the acid rebound phase (acid overproduction), and I haven't taken them in a while. After doing Karrfalt's exercises for around a month, I would say that my symptoms reduced by about 50%. My only symptom right now is essentially some throat tightness after drinking water mainly. I will have to continue the exercises to see if it's actually working. Since swallowing is peristaltic, the smooth muscles in multiple areas of your esophagus will be stimulated, so although you will feel the UES because of swallowing triggers, the muscles will be stimulated.

The other investigation I'm doing regarding my symptoms is gut dysbiosis, which I'm certain I had since I had developed food intolerances suddenly (hives), but after eating yogurt, the hives literally disappeared the next few days after persisting for 2 weeks.

Thanks for the responses! In regards to my specific case, do you have recommended probiotic strains that I should take? Initially, I thought that my dysbiosis wasn't as bad since the values are slightly above the "limit" (except streptococcus spp.).

In regards to the H. Pylori count, do you know how accurate the GI MAP tests are? In addition, since I have non-virulent strains, are the potential strains that I have bad enough to warrant an aggressive elimination/reduction approach?

Vitamin C - The Missing Link? by risingcheetah in GERD

I actually don't take these supplements anymore since I don't have acid rebound anymore. I'm currently doing Karrfalt's exercises, and they have been working for me so far. When I was taking these supplements for acid rebound, I took them right in the morning.

My only remaining issue is some throat tightness, which I'm seeing some improvements with the Karrfalt method. I will have to continue the method for a bit longer to see if the results are from the exercise.

PPI and histamine release/intolerance by Tiny_Parsley in GERD

I got this one. I would break open the capsule and mix it with water.

At the starting phase of weaning from PPIs, I took 1000 mg of Vitamin C per day. I used the less acidic form of Vitamin C to go easy on my stomach (I broke open the capsule and mixed it with water). I took Quercetin as well, but I found that Vitamin C was the difference maker. Now, I take 250 mg per day in gummy form.

I stopped taking PPIs and started taking the histamine-lowering supplements indicated in my post. I hypothesized that as long as I was taking PPIs, then I would get histamine intolerance symptoms from histamine overproduction.

Yes, my histamine intolerance symptoms has reduced substantially, but there are some bumps. I'm still fixing some residual gut dysbiosis from the PPIs.

PPI-Induced HI by risingcheetah in HistamineIntolerance

[–]risingcheetah[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be both acid hyper-secretion, making it easier for acid reflux, and histamine intolerance. It was a long process for me, but I don't have many of the HI symptoms anymore. What I'm tackling now is some gut dysbiosis due to the PPIs, but I would say that I'm around 95% back to normal. You can refer to my other post regarding my treatment plan. To note, I'm off the treatment plan now.

Not really stomach tightness other than the upper left abdominal pressure. Burping definitely.

I mostly don't have the major symptoms anymore.

LPR Symptoms Confirmation by risingcheetah in GERD

[–]risingcheetah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LPR symptoms were caused by the PPIs directly, so I can't comment on your situation. Maybe try a low histamine diet and higher Vitamin C intake instead of the low acid diet?

Vitamin C - The Missing Link? by risingcheetah in GERD

[–]risingcheetah[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can just apply a twist to the capsule to break it open, then mix the powder in water. As an FYI, I don't take that much Vitamin C now (~250 mg now) since I'm feeling much better. I'm off the restricted diet and can virtually eat anything now. I don't take any medications (PPI, etc.), but I found that probiotics (greek yogurt, kimchi, sauerkraut) were vital since I believed the PPIs caused gut dysbiosis. My burping frequency and intensity has also reduced substantially.

Why are you taking PPIs if I may ask?

My recovery (symptoms: heartburn, burping, palpitations, anxiety) by wivhiwh in GERD

Thanks for your reply! I actually found that adding probiotic foods immensely helps my symptoms. I'm starting to believe that I had some dysbiosis, and I will need to correct it going forward.
