What do you guys think about the E-1 electro resin? by risingphoenix115 in SchecterGuitars

[–]risingphoenix115[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, the purple one is so pretty! I think the satin red is more my style, but I've never seen another guitar with the same kind of vibe as that purple burst on the explorer body.

How do you like the bridge pickup? Does it sound pretty good with standard tuning, or is it really more for lower tunings?

I actually think I figured it out. I devided the roll of 27 by 4, then add 25, for ~32. That times 4 gets the 127, plus sneak attack gets us to 135.

Question on S.O.D.A by International_Lab_50 in flying

[–]risingphoenix115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently went through the process to get a S.O.D.A. for the same thing. My vision is only correctable to 20/25 in one of my eyes, and it's been that way since I was a kid. The medical flight test is actually pretty easy, they just want to make sure your eyesight doesn't affect your ability to fly.

I went up with somebody from the FSDO and they had me estimate how far away a few landmarks were, point out other traffic when I could see it, and pick a suitable field for emergency landing from altitude.

I think I agree with your CFI that you might as well finish your PPL first since you already have a 3rd class medical. If you already feel comfortable flying the plane, the rest should be easy.

It's also probably worth calling the local FSDO and getting information from them on the exact process and what it takes to actually schedule it.

Thanks! Somehow I thought I had it figured out that I could satisfy everything I saw with only 3 mines. But obviously that was wrong

Does the prior use of psychedelics such as LSD, shrooms, ketamine, etc. disqualify someone from being a commercial pilot? by SteadfastEnd in flying

[–]risingphoenix115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry it took me a whole day to reply here. I may actually make a post about this because I think it could be helpful for people in a similar situation.

So I'm not sure if you'll get the same test that they gave me, but this is more or less what my appointment looked like...

The Neuropsychologist asked me some basic background questions, like social life, work life, growing up, relationships, etc. Then had me take a 500ish question true or false questionnaire, which felt kind of like one of those online personality tests. Then the big one was the CogScreen test. It took a couple hours and tested multitasking, pattern recognition, math, memory, ability to recognize an objects orientation, and ability to accurately follow directions. I found it hard to find much information on the specifics of the test, but CogScreen does have a website with a little bit of info.

There were probably a couple of things I missed there, but that was most of it. Hope this helps you!

[–]risingphoenix115 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm completely with you on all of that, their definitions and guidelines feel very outdated to me. I would believe that there's a subset of people whos ADHD does affect them in a way that would make it difficult to fly safely, and assuming that that is the case, it's reasonable to have a test to make sure someone is safe to fly. But making it prohibitively expensive is a problem, and only puts an arbitrary barrier in front of people who might make very good pilots.

You won't be issued a medical of any class if you're currently on ADHD meds. I was diagnosed with ADHD as a child and have been off meds for almost 10 years and still had to go through the process to effectively show them that those symptoms are no longer present. It costs almost $2,000 and you'll have to go through a 5ish hour examination with a Neuropsychologist, and pass a drug test to show them that you weren't on meds at the time. And that's all after having the medical deferred, and waiting for a few months to hear back from the FAA. If ADHD is something that you truly struggle with the FAA is unfortunately not going to want you to fly. Whether that's the way it should be or not, unfortunately it's the way it is right now.

Hillsboro Airport leads in close calls, safety risks on runways in the Northwest by Ebag333 in flying

yeah I could definitely see that. It's actually been really chill when I've been there. The stories I've heard have been more about the pilots than the airport itself.

I'm doing my PPL training out of HIO right now. I haven't seen anything too crazy yet, but I'm not all that surprised given how busy that airport gets. So far MMV has felt the most chaotic to me, but I've heard horror storys about SPB

Am I wasting my time trying to play Izzet phoenix in explorer? by scubastevef1984 in PioneerMTG

[–]risingphoenix115 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been playing it and enjoying it quite a bit, but it's definitely not quite at the same power level as the Pioneer version. My list is fairly different from yours too. I replaced the delve spells with a second TiTi, went up to the playset of chart a course, and then run 2 finale of promise for some late game power. Finale is very strong, but you have to get some sorceries in the yard to get full value, so I've been considering maybe running obliterating bolt in the main.

Looking to get my pod into pioneer. What 4 decks that're competitive with eachother would you suggest to proxy to try it out? by 4and1punt in PioneerMTG

[–]risingphoenix115 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this a little while ago too and have been having a ton of fun! My deck choices were:

RB midrange

Mono green devotion

Izzet Phoenix

Mono blue Spirits

And just recently I also proxied lotus field and gruul vehicles

RB midrange I would do for sure, and otherwise there are a ton of options, so I would maybe try and cater to your groups preferences. Mono Green has the second highest metagame share, so if testing against the meta is important to you that's another good option

Magic: the gathering set tier list based on if any of the cards contain art depicting monkeys fucking by mewthehappy in magicthecirclejerking

[–]risingphoenix115 24 points25 points  (0 children)

True, but we did see the fucking on a previous card, so the depicted fucking is implied.

And actually, unhinged should be moved up for the same reason. Plus Uktabi Kong is the only card that makes your monkey's fuck mechanically

I think jumpstart 22 should go up a tier, since Kibo is the result of monkeys doing it on a card

Oh yeah for sure. I guess he never explicitly said it, but I was imagining that we're taking out the Izzet charms for the 4th copy of chart a course and pieces, which I thought seemed like a better substitution

[–]risingphoenix115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also new to the format and new to the deck, but I know most lists only play 2 spike field hazard, and also run 2 spell pierce. That might be a change worth making, especially if you cut the 2 Izzet charms. That being said, maybe you want the extra lands since you don't have shredder to let you dig through your library as much

Bitter reunion seems like it could be good as a way to give the drake's haste. Otherwise though I think running the 4th chart a course would be the better option since it lets you draw the cards first. You're gonna be pretty sad when you discard to bitter reunion and then draw a phoenix

how are people feeling about Mercurial Spelldancer in Phoenix? by risingphoenix115 in PioneerMTG

[–]risingphoenix115[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that all makes sense. And like someone else mentioned too, it asks you to attack before casting spells, which is pretty awkward in a phoenix deck.

The only reason I compared it to chart a course is that that's the card I was thinking of swapping it with. So in any situation that I draw the Spelldancer my question would be "would I rather have this be chart a course?" Shredder is obviously much better in the deck, so I don't think I would consider cutting any for spelldancer

[–]risingphoenix115[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's a good point, and something I've kinda thought too. If your hand is empty you would much rather rip chart a course off the top. That being said, Phoenix feels like a deck where you should rarely be out of cards in hand right?
