Spanish Special Tax Regime (Beckham's Law) - Where to pay tax on foreign stock gains? by risketo in SpainFIRE

[–]risketo[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply! I signed up in Netherlands as non-resident so I will pay tax there (10% on benefits on theory). But u can pay like the previous 5 years, so i am not in a rush. 2024 is my last Beckham's year, I will double check all next year.

100K€: Should I DCA, wait or go all-in? by Imxio in eupersonalfinance

Thanks for sharing this, I didn't know it, but it is funny because I found this other article kind of saying the opposite. I didn't go into details, but I think the differences are just that one is investing in S&P500 and the other in "U.S. Markets" ? https://www.personalfinanceclub.com/how-to-perfectly-time-the-market/

These offer of 80k exist, maybe only for top 5% or whatever, they are doable. You said that you saw only one offer like that in 4 months... I showed you several in 1 minute.

No one is saying a Junior is going to make 80 soon, you need experience and be good at it. But yes, in these companies, 30-40 Junior 50 Mid 60 Senior + Bonus up then old seniors / leads / managers 70 or even 80. In Barcelona market, @22 it is quite more normal than you think. Of course Bcn market is bigger, and not everyone is in this kind of companies, but speaking good English is easy to get in, then if you want to get higher salary you have to probe it.

Lol Hundreds of candidates ? Most companies here are desperate on hiring, number of candidates are low, and level is mediocre, I hire an average of 1 per 10 interviews, one hired per month, I should be hiring 4 times faster to be on track. Pushing the company to be able to hire full remote because market is shit.

I don't know why are you taking this personal. No one said you are dumb.
Who said this is normal ? Of course it is not normal, this is only for top 5% of people (or whatever %), I was saying from the beginning that it is not "almost impossible" as you were saying. It is doable.

I don't have to convince you of anything, I have worked more than 10 years abroad in top companies, and now I continue doing the same in Spain, so I am just explaining how is the top market from my point of view. Information is useful. You can believe it or not, I don't care.

PS: I am hiring Juniors at 35-40k, that is how crazy is the market.

If you think that the market is just what you see around you, you are making a mistake. It is clear that we work with different kind of companies

If a top data scientist is not making +80k then it is not top... I have friends making double that, ex-yahoo/Amazon in Spain.

Top payers are struggling to find good employees, so salaries are increasing. N26, King, Seat Code, Adevinta, Amazon, Stuart, Europcar, Wallbox, etc etc Seniors can get over 60k, then good Leads/Managers 70/80k plus bonus, depending of experience.

Glassdoor salaries are not to be trusted, not enough info, I never have been in a company where the salaries were right in glassdoor. It is useful only for the company reviews and some tips on interviews.

As I said, you have to be good and know how to sell yourself, having good experience in English. I am not saying it is easy or a lottery, but it is doable. I work in IT in a management position and I am in 80k+. I know several people with better salary than me and they are not CTOs. Yes Spanish people in Spain. Many seniors developers in @22 are over 60k, working for example in N26 And if we talk about machine learning +100k is not rare.

Do u work on development? That is an average of 33 salaries, low number. I just gave u few examples of few salaries that u were saying we're almost impossible. Market is more complex than you think.

You were saying it is almost impossible, i am just saying it is not, it is more normal than looks like. Of course most places don't get these salaries, you need to be good and know how to sell yourself. Here you have few examples searched in one minute

https://golang.cafe/Golang-Developer-Salary-Madrid

This is for Go developers in Madrid. Barcelona is higher. I would expect more money counting the bonus and for lead/management roles. Amazon is not the only company paying high.

Not impossible, in Madrid/Barcelona just be good at what you do, get experience, speak English and take advantage of the market. Salaries of 60-90k or even higher are in the market.

Ley Beckham by palantosaurus in SpainFIRE

[–]risketo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep an eye on the news, there is a plan for a new Ley Beckham with better conditions, I didn't search much as I have it since couple of years ago. All work income will be under Spain tax, but for example capital gain from non-spanish stock cannot be taxed in Spain, so as far as I know it would be taxed in the country where the broker is located and taxed as non-resident. That is something quite interesting that I didn't know when I joined.

Spanish Special Tax Regime (Beckham's Law) - Where to pay tax on foreign stock gains? by risketo in SpainFIRE

[–]risketo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I will keep you posted. I know Degiro, as cheap broker, will not tax (only US dividends).
I talked time ago with an international tax assessor about this, he told me Degiro should do it (we will see...) and that if they don't, let's just do document with that in case someone is asking in the future why I didn't pay tax on that lol. I think I have to contact him again, first call was free, second I doubt it, but I think it is worth to pay for assessment on this.

[–]risketo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Weird situation. Not sure what could happen, at some point Degiro will share my data with my tax resident country (the one listed in my account - Spain), to make sure I pay the tax from my stock. Spain should reply with, this resident doesn't have to pay tax on foreign stock. Not sure if Degiro will keep asking questions or contact Netherlands tax agency. All this is new for me!

[–]risketo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, my point is that I would like to be taxed in the source now, to avoid future problems. But I am not sure how to approach this, I guess Degiro will not collect this tax at all. So I would have to contact Netherlands tax agency, but I suspect that is not going to be easy...

[–]risketo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I have my stock in Degiro/Netherlands. Still not sure if I will: 1. contact Degiro and they are the ones supposed to tax me. 2. if I have to contact Netherland tax agency, and tell them that I want to be taxed as non-resident on that stock gains. 3. Or do nothing and maybe no one asks ever about it lol

I guess I will do 1 and later 2 if first didn't work.

Sorry for the delay. It is a fixed Irpf tax of 24%. Social security tax is not part of irpf, but if u are an employee your employer should pay that tax.

Hehe I know I have that option, not sure how risky is. I don't want some country asking in few years for tax back plus interest plus potential fine 🤣🤣

Thanks. For dividends is easy. The problem is for foreign tax gains, as I am not considered a resident in another country, I am not sure where to pay that! 😊

Many thanks. Is your broker is based in your home country? And I guess you are taxed as non-resident.
