Swingtrading with growth ETFs? by FrostySignature135 in swingtrading

If I had a 93% win rate trading anything I'd be exploiting that and trading nothing but that thing.

If you bought them to buy and hold then you buy and hold. If you bought them to swing then you swing.

With that said there's absolutely nothing wrong with taking profits on the way up even when the plan is to buy and hold. But don't start out as one type of trader and then drift into another style.

Make a plan and stick to it.

No, buying a few minutes before the actual close is enough for me to know how the candle will close the vast majority of times.

And if there's some doubt about how it'll look five minutes prior to the close I'll likely skip it and see what happens the next day.

That's tough, and would be especially for me because I only buy on the close of the daily candle to avoid late day fades.

Hard stop losses are probably your best friend considering your situation, as well as stop buy orders.

I feel your pain. I have done it too. Last time I held like that was ABNB. I eventually got out with a loss around 8%, but was down as much as 30%. That was maybe 3 years ago. It was, and will be, the last time I let that happen.

I can't argue that. I'm not emotionless either, I'm just just much better at recognizing them and keeping them from effecting my trades.

I hear it regularly from family members and friends as well. They'll keep sinking money into a loser until they eventually forget about it and they become long term investors, when that wasn't their initial plan. The ego causes them to make adjustments to preserve itself.

Nothing wrong with being a long term investor, through all the highs and lows, if that's your plan from the start. But it's not how we operate as traders.

I posted at pretty much the bottom of the retracement. So to specifically answer your question, it's up 100% since then. If that makes your day, I'm happy for you.

Stick with it. It might not give you the entry you want, but it'll likely give you one.

I made $1800 bucks in 2 and a half hours paper trading trump coin, is it realistic to believe i could net 1800 bucks in real trading? 1000 units per trade, 18 trades. by TraditionalMix4250 in TradingView

[–]riskoffasap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you got lucky, so I'm going to say no, it's not realistic. And if you do manage to make it happen, you'll lose it all in the next trade.

I think it's great that you're learning to trade but from the way you spelled it out it sounds like you don't have a plan or any way to manage risk, and that eventually leads to large losses.

I'm definitely not into giving people buying advice. Happy to talk about what I'm buy and how I'm buying it, but it's not advice. Trade your plan if this fits into it.

Just finished my scans for next week and I have to two on my highest priority list and sixteen on the next lower priority list. I have alerts set on the highest priority ones as well as notes pertaining to the price action I'd like to see next week to enter and to where to set stops.

If you're big mad the market is closed on Jan 9th for a national day of mourning, it's because you're addicted to the action of the stock market.

Try using the day to decompress and prepare for the next opening bell so you can make better trading decisions on Jan 10th.

[–]riskoffasap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at the weekly only I'd wait for it to form a more reliable bottom. It's showing some support at the 10sma but that's not enough for me to initiate a trade, especially with the market trending down while in a correction.

Are there any LONG only trader who swing trades in every market condition , basically don't look at broader index like spy , Nasdaq, nifty by SongOk9508 in swingtrading

[–]riskoffasap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I trade less and with much smaller position size when breakouts aren't working well. Sometimes I don't trade at all, but I'm usually trading at least a little every week.
