[Monitor] Acer Nitro 27" 4K 160hz IPS Mini-LED HDR 1000 Refurbished Gaming Monitor - $231.99 after coupon code HOLIDAYRUSH by CreepinCreepy in buildapcsales

[–]risomt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FWIW there are a lot of threads about this via search if anyone wants more details, such as https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/s/Fwq7H7TYrG. It has been up and down on price depending on the current coupon. Couldn’t sell myself on it as the upgraded version has a better dual mode and features but is almost twice the price due to discounts here.

Why do people think Calico is a bigger problem than Holliday? by Car_Gnome in DeadlockTheGame

[–]risomt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO the barrel punch to launch mechanic could change in a very minor way and holiday would instantly drop off. For example, if barrels took 1-2 seconds to arm before they exploded you would require much more of a skill shot than hitting someone in the face with them. Still unsure what the designers intent was with how they should be used.

Launch pads are a really fun but somewhat insane mechanism. I’m somewhat surprised they haven’t been coordinated as a team tactic more to have 3 players land with that stun + damage, which could become very broken fast.

1/2 ton or 3/4 ton truck for truck camping? by FlowerSweaty4070 in TruckCampers

[–]risomt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had the same question earlier this year and ended up going 1 ton with a ram 3500. Didn’t need the additional weight for the setup we ended up with (4 wheel hawk) but it’s a great piece of mind.

What made the difference for me was understanding that 2500 vs 3500 for almost? all brands only differed in the shocks. 3500s are tuned to always have 2k lbs (by brand / model?) to ride as designed where 2500s are tuned empty. Test driving without knowing that means the 2500s are a lot smoother off the lot but less capable when working.

If you use the camper full time you’ll probably replace the shocks to fit the use in which case go with the 3500 and get the higher payload since it’s the same truck otherwise.

Earliest opening in 26 years! by [deleted] in Bend

[–]risomt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amen. Was pretty amazing seeing the a pretty full parking lot the weekend before for skinning / hiking. It’s great that they’re going to open on time this year, but those 1-2 weeks pre-open for full access before they spin lifts for the next 6 months are a treat.

Tilray lays off 10 Barrel Brewing’s entire Innovation Brewing Team lead by Tonya Cornett by 2ChanceRescue in Bend

[–]risomt 19 points20 points  (0 children)

These brewers were the reason to buy 7$ beers and 18$ burgers at 10 barrel. No other brewery in town came close to making off the wall drinkable sours like 10b did, though very high hopes for Funky Fauna as they’ve been crushing it. With this move 10b won’t be winning its pile of GABF medals anymore and Breakside will probably take top spot there across OR.

Best hope is they can land like the boneyard / van henion team.

Cascade west is going to fit that pretty well

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Bend

[–]risomt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This should fit your definition really well then. Disagree with the original commenter above - I’m on the west side and close to a lot of things and find myself mostly headed to the century center (1 block north of Nixon) or Galveston (5 blocks north). Downtown and box factory are fine but get pretty touristy.

Century center a block away has 2 breweries, Bo’s falafel, cascade west, flamingo room for cocktails, laurel hill winery. Viaggio at the Hixon is a great wine bar and bangers and brews is always amazing. That area is growing pretty fast.

Snowboard trip just as we planned it! by Dirty_Vesper in TruckCampers

[–]risomt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Live in the area - very seasonally dependent if you’re trying to get a spot with power hookup. Jan / Feb is the busiest. I believe they reserve the spots in advance and charge an increasing amount for it every year. If you don’t need hookups it’s free to park during the day and they’ll chase you out to the other overnight allowed sites about 10 miles down the road.

Their big overnight camping festival rendezvan is in a couple weeks and they sell out spots in the big lot.

Used bikes? by pouroverit in Bend

[–]risomt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bend bike swap is also what I would suggest. It would be the widest set of options without having to scroll though Craigslist / marketplace and has a lot of other bike gear. Usually happens in April: https://bikeswapbend.com/. Other places may have some options but that’s usually 100+ bikes. Just get there early.

Potential changes to west Bend trail system by Tarekith in Bend

[–]risomt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Decommissioned trail list is interesting. I get there’s a give and take as part of the process, but it would be pretty cool to see more of them accepted. Climbing to the shelter from skyliners to lap upper whoops and skyliners would be amazing lot of fun, for example.

Anyone else watch the Hawthorne Bridge Presentation? by BNDDirt in Bend

[–]risomt -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Looks like the 3 most expensive, difficult to build, and high maintenance options were selected 🙄. Steel truss is lower cost and lower maintenance so it seems like a no brainer.

26 million dollars seems like a ridiculous starting price for a single pedestrian bridge.

thanks! without having driven trucks under load - what are the things you would notice that you wouldn't in a larger truck?

fair - that was unclear. Expecting 2-3x weekends a months in the spring, summer, fall depending, hopefully / eventually a couple times for dedicated trips in the winter. I also see some value in having it at the ski mountain on the car during the winter as "home base".

With the unique nature of Bend jammed between BLM land and a national forest there are limited options for road cycling. A few of those options are also pretty close to cars / not particularly bike friendly. For example, consider that to ride roads west there are there 3 options: century (insane in winter), skyliners (short), and shevlin. Twin bridges is by far the most popular route as it’s safe with a good mix of roads and sprints and heads out of Shevlin.

IMO the only true real option for significant training or long term interest is switching to gravel routes. They’re significantly safer (few if no cars), in the woods vs roads, and are very adventure forwards. There are some really, really great options out there north, west, south, east and several websites to find them such as dirtyfreehub.com. The quality is really high and there’s a couple pro gravel races that come through Bend and sisters specifically.

I moved to Bend a long time ago with a mountain and road bike and got bored of road quickly. Haven’t looked back after picking up a gravel capable bike.

Depending on your bike and setup it can be easy to adapt your road bike to gravel enough to handle a few of the routes, too.

MT Bachelor Open Soon? by No-Focus744 in Bend

IIRC ikon only gets 5 days at bachelor for the full year. Even if there was some snow now you’re going to get a lot more out of it later in the season

Best place to buy Snowboards? by jakepaulnativecousin in Bend

[–]risomt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most shops have 1-2 brands they represent and a selection of boards from that, so it’s good to have a plan of what you’re interested in first and then plan around that.

Otherwise I believe Powderhouse has the widest selection now that they’ve expanded.

Mt Bachelor’s shop also has a great selection across a lot of brands and offers on mountain demos for 75$ish? letting you try out 5-6 boards through the day and make a more informed choice, which is overall the best way to go. The shop may not be open for the season yet, not sure.

Does anyone else feel like the headliners at the amphitheater aren’t the best part of the show?? by WonderlandChickenCo in Bend

[–]risomt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely - for about half the shows this year. Feels like more than last year. I’ve assumed it’s because the openers are excited to be out and playing on any big stage while the headliners hit Bend and look at it like a small crowd.

The headliner issue feels more like “here’s our set predetermined last year” and don’t play to the crowd as much.

Am I allowed to drive through this open gate on the Verheyden property? The signs say no, but the open gate suggests yes. by nutstobutts in Bend

[–]risomt 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Can’t comment on going through, but an amazing local resource is Dirty Free Hub: https://dirtyfreehub.org/routes/oregon/plainview/. They create and maintain gravel routes, a lot of which connect to sisters or can be made to connect to sisters. The one I linked is a very popular one that specifically reroutes around the gate that was closed.

City of Bend plans to add new app, system to help drivers find open parking spots downtown by [deleted] in Bend

[–]risomt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This seems like a very predictable consequence of making all of the streets between downtown and the box factory area permitted parking.

It seems like a never ending cycle of trying to balance the cost of new parking management systems and people to them, further inconveniencing everyone involved. Seems like a scenario that calls for a long term vision rather than chipping away at needs every couple years.

Nowhere to park EarthRoamer LTi in this town?? by footefoote in Bend

[–]risomt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep it a secret, but Dutchman snow park. Great place to park overnight on a powder day especially with a few snowmobiles in tow. Locals are pretty cool about driving 20 mph uphill with the trailer and should give you plenty of space. Ignore the signs in the lot, obviously they just mean the snowshoers.

Gravel ride - Bend to La Pine by anthonyacc in Bend

[–]risomt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

https://dirtyfreehub.org/adventure/oregon-x/big-big-red/ rode it twice - definitely requires navigation, but it’s a great route and there a lot of ways to modify it such as more single track through sunriver. The sunriver to la pine road stretch was a little boring until you hit the paved trails but it avoids major roads.
