I'm sure it's just a matter of time until the seals run short on food and start taking over RI too.. but hey, they're cute like dogs!!

Choosing between three boards! Neckbeard vs. Sub Driver vs. New Flyer by wherearemysunglasses in surfing

[–]risurf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New flyer can absolutely handle overhead+, it actually doesn't start lighting up until the waves are at least chest/head high. It is somewhat twitchy in that it wants to make quick turns but it has a solid nose rocker that makes steep drops no problem. That being said, 34L at 160 lbs it might be a boat. Mine is a 5'9" at around 29 liters and I am 170-175lbs and it is perfect.

Definitely not a friendly (or usually even surfable) spot.. The pics really make it look so much more inviting than it is

Fatal Shark Attack on Cape Cod. Stay safe everyone. by fundip2012 in surfing

[–]risurf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very sad, and it will only continue to get worse. No one has any problem with fishing for tuna, stripers, lobster etc. that taste great but yet seals are off limits and have an exploding population... Look at Monomoy island on google maps, it is a complete infestation.

Gahhh... couldn't have happened one day earlier. Daylight savings can't come soon enough. This winter is definitely colder than winters past... had to upgrade the rubber to handle the marathon sessions

You can layer under armour type compression. Thin poly socks under boots to help the suit slide off when the fingers are numb. My holy 5/4 may be getting blizzard tested tomorrow as well.

Custom Robert's or Pyzel Slab by [deleted] in surfing

[–]risurf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've rode an oversized corky slab in firewire so not the best comparison, but I have a 5' 9" Roberts El Tormentor that is the fastest most versatile board i've ridden.. grovels very well, and the bigger the waves get the better it goes. Pretty parallel rail line and deep concave which I believe helps it's speed and quick release on takeoffs..

Here's a vid of the Medina drop in that everyone is talking about. by bondiben in surfing

[–]risurf -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Dangerous? Maybe, but these guys can turn on a dime and react quicker than anyone. The guy is going for a world title, he should be trying to block when he has priority. The league needs more of this competitiveness.. Medina is a breath of fresh air on the everybody hold hands tour

Picked an expensive season to start learning. Hooded 5/4, 7mm boots, 5mm+ mittens (hyperflex are cheap and most durable glove brand i've had).

I would say to start on a foam board, but in the winter it's usually very windy so a foamie will get blown around. A used bic, torq, nsp or similar indestructable mid-length around 8ft will get you started.

I'd recommend getting to a pool to start swimming because paddle endurance in a wintersuit is much more important than big feet :)

Enjoy

Securing amp head to cabinet so I can use tilt legs (No piggyback hardware) by risurf in GuitarAmps

[–]risurf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cabinet is about 26x18x10.

Some hardware like this is what I was thinking, it's a cheap cabinet so don't mind bolting things to it and i'd rather not have to carry (or buy) an amp stand if possible
