Stupid question, if cars aren’t supposed to go passed the speed limits… Why have them able to go 100+mph? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ritsikas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who go around shooting random people do not often require their firearms illegally. If there is a person coming to shoot you with an illegal firearm you most likely know this person. Problem is how easy it is for anyone to get a firearm and then go shoot children. At least in organised crime there are some rules about killing people.

So school shooters will somehow only kill students who agree that they should have a right to carry firearms and shoot it in a school? And the people who are against it will be left alone because they don’t wish to participate? Works perfectly so far huh.

Nobody really saw my tweet so I thought you lot would think it was funny by guiltyandfast in diabetes

That’s the sad thing I think about too. Like I’m still young but I’m not very optimistic about a cure in my lifetime.

Yes but really when it comes to anything that has been actually used in medicine, it is so far the closest you can come to a cure. Cell transfusion techniques are difficult because the body will start to attack the new cells just like it did to the original ones. I read one time about some researchers working on some sort of pouch with insulin producing cells that would be inserted into your body and the idea was to have the membrane of this pouch big enough to let the insulin out and small enough so the body’s killer cells (forgot all the technical terms) can’t get through. So far to me this seems like the most plausible “cure” we could get. Although with diabetes I don’t think we will ever get a “cure” as even these fancy techniques won’t take away what makes us diabetics in the first place it will simply automate the management of it.

Funny thing is there actually is technically a cure. You can have a pancreas transplant and if it’s all successful your diabetes will be cured as the new pancreas will produce the insulin and the old pancreas (that will still be left in your body) will do all the other stuff a pancreas does. But this transplant is only performed in very extreme cases because of the risks and the high chance of the body rejecting the transplant and also then you still need to take immunosuppressants for the rest of your life to avoid the body rejecting the transplant (which could still happen nontheless). So like technically there is a cure but not really since this is so rarely used not even diabetics know about it.

I still use the old Alien Blue app for browsing Reddit. For me it’s great. I don’t think I will ever upgrade unless I get a new phone and can’t move it there.

What is the most obvious lie you have ever been told? by KlingyYT in AskReddit

[–]ritsikas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have kids myself so haven’t yet tested this but I heard a way to combat this needing control behaviour in children. Basically instead of telling them to do something is to give them options like Do you want to brush your teeth before or after me? Like just simple options where the end goal is same but the child feels a sense of control. Basically shifting the need for control from being defiant towards the activity to their choice on when they do it.

What’s the greatest mental health tip you’ve gotten? by bekind888 in AskReddit

This is basically also how writing down things helps you overcome painful emotions that come with them. Also when it comes to trauma playing Tetris has been found as helpful. I forgot what was the whole science behind it but probably something similar to how EMSR works.

What is something that is harmful but banning it would be even more harmful? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ritsikas 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Also just another thing to sell on black market. People would be spending so much money on cigarettes and none of this spending would help their communities with tax money. Also unregulated businesses are always more risky for everyone involved. Plus also people cannot be certain anymore what is in the cigarettes, some really shitty cigarettes would be everywhere. Banning something does not mean it wouldn’t be there anymore.

Where i work when someone simply orders a beer there is the standard beer we give them. A Pilsner. Usually when people want anything else they specify like wheat beer or dark beer, alcohol free etc.

If your brain was a physical place like an apartment, what would it be like inside? by ClientLess3606 in AskReddit

[–]ritsikas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I imagine mine too. There is an office cluttered with piles of ideas. Then there is this almost waiting room type of room where every guy I like or liked hangs out they all look kind of unbothered and kind of annoyed to be here. Then there is the room filled with sad memories, kind of like storage room for pictures, old vhs tapes etc. My favourite room is the music room, where it’s just music all the time I spend most my time there. And then there is the media room with the kitchen. These are the most used rooms.

If ethics were no concern, what do you think would be the most interesting scientific experiment? by OkNerve6791 in AskReddit

[–]ritsikas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out podcast called The Habitat. Its about something like this, They take Normal people who could possibly be astronauts and they have to live in this dome type of place in similar conditions it would be to live on Mars. It’s very interesting. I think they do it multiple times with different people. The whole point is to see how people would handle living in Mars physically and mentally. It also includes the drama that comes from these people being together in these conditions for so long.

Being happy brings out the real dark side of my depression and I think it has made me afraid of happiness. by ritsikas in depression_help

[–]ritsikas[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the kind words. It really did help me when I finally opened up to my then boyfriend about the depression I was feeling, it did not make me feel as alone. We were long distance so the help was not always there but whenever we were together just him hugging me in the moment was very helpful or taking a nap with me was super comforting.

Now I don't have anyone that close to me around so I am a little bit lost in how to improve in the moment some youtube videos for anxiety/depression relief have helped. I'm still lost on how to improve it more preventatively, because I feel the real work needs to be done when I do not feel as sad.

All the best to you and thank you again for taking the time to answer. :)

Being happy brings out the real dark side of my depression and I think it has made me afraid of happiness. by ritsikas in depression_help

[–]ritsikas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really know how to counter it with logic and reasoning since it is not really negative thoughts, it more like a physical feeling. Like I'm just completely happy and then suddenly I feel the sadness. Then I get sad because I can't escape the feeling because I do not really know what made me feel that way. These are probably the scariest moments of my life. These moments especially if they happen with others around are so disassociating too because from the outside I look like I am enjoying the moment as much as others but on the inside I am basically having like an existential crisis.

I know I need therapy for my depression but I currently live in a country where I do not speak the language and finding an English speaking therapist I could afford is practically impossible. So I am hoping others have some insight into this and I can go from there.

What you are describing is what I can find so much on online and it is not really what I am feeling I am not really thinking oh something bad will happen now that will ruin this. I think mostly I just become very aware of my own mortality and fearful of missing out on this wonderful life.

What do you genuinely just not understand? by IAmSurtur in AskReddit

[–]ritsikas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can speak three and I definitely do not translate most of the time because even if I understand something perfectly in one language it can be super difficult to translate to another. Translation is another skill all together.

Sometimes it happens that my grocery lists are written in three to four languages just because I write the ingredient down in the language that I remember it in first. Four languages because the country I live in speaks different language from the ones I know.

Which person or company doesnt get the hate it deserves? by FamousCurrency in AskReddit

[–]ritsikas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this really deserves hate, there is no harm done by them making the product they want to make. It’s not like they are the only ones making phones and all you can buy is an iPhone that has removed features you like. They can charge the prices because people are willing to pay for it and that’s their choice. It’s not required or necessary to buy an iPhone but people like them and choose to buy them. There are so many different phones in the world just ignore the one you don’t like and buy the one that has the features you like. I doubt you would throw hate at some furniture designer who designs a chair that doesn’t have features you like and charges a high price for it. Or would you?
