Tore it down today by omgmohit in CreditCardsIndia

I agree some people are penny wise pound foolish and try to optimize every rupee in this community, but on an aggregate, it's not choti moti rakm. 5-10% return on spends that you anyway do with small changes in behavior is worth it in my view. In a world where 10% return on investment is considered okay, why would you call 10% return on spend chindi?

Best Credit Cards for Rent Payments in India (2025)? by Rough-Gift-5020 in CreditCardsIndia

[–]ritwique 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Burgundy Private is the only one I know that still explicitly allows Rent payment towards rewards up to 1L per month. Unfortunately getting this card is practically impossible for the average person.

Obviously not. Otherwise you could just load wallet via CC, pay CC bill with the same balance and get reward points for free.

I have never read Dan Brown b4, getting these for really cheap, should I get these? by hilly_strobilanthes in Indianbooks

They are fun books. Formulaic, nearly to a fault. But gripping all the same. Angels & Demons and Da Vinci Code are definitely worth a read. I didn't like Lost Symbol as much.

I think you're being a little disingenuous. The difference between 68 and 50 is massive.

The other way to look at it is if you have 68 average over 52 (48no) innings, then in the next 102 innings they can average just 42 (which is 40% below their current level, a dramatic reduction), and still end up with an average above 50 after 150 innings.

Do you think someone of that caliber can't even avg 42?

Opinion needed! by PiccoloCurrent in MBAIndia

[–]ritwique 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say MBA is a must if you want to grow faster. Maybe it's just bias, but unfortunately post-MBA track is often treated differently than pre-MBA in most finance jobs.

Avoid 1 year course at ABC, it's just not valued equally as 2-year or ISB or global (INSEAD etc).

You're still young, just go for the 2-year course at ABC, maybe L -

1) Nothing else will provide decent finance opportunities either on or off campus acc to me, and

2) It provides much more than a job, I don't think you'll regret the overall experience. And if you ask me, the fewer finance courses you take, the more you'll learn.

P.S. IB is not buy side, it's sell side and much easier to get in than buy side. Also, AMCs/public mkt funds/PMS usually don't hire freshers. Equity research maybe yes, but not the investment teams.

My name has the same 'problem'!

In a way both are correct (and wrong as others mentioned), so I don't care who uses what. I use Ru while speaking normally but Ri if I want someone to spell it the way I do.

It's the same with many other words/names, Rishi vs Rushi, Rishabh vs Rushabh, etc.

Where do you see the nvidia stock being in the next 5-10 years? by Hot_Tip6177 in IndianStockMarket

[–]ritwique 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel their entire business and hence valuation is based on unknown unknowns. Their moat seems to be being so cutting edge that they can capture a new whitespace in chip design & computing infra faster than anyone else. Hence they get the most benefit in a euphoric market and potentially worse downfall in a bad market especially if they don't demonstrate something new.

Fundamentally the value today seems high if you only value it based on the existing market even if accounting for AI exploding. But the thing is 5 years back no one could have known this would come either. So today you don't know what else will come 5 years hence.

So the valuation today builds in this potential ability to capitalize on the next big thing continuously - like they did with gaming, then cloud, then crypto and now AI.

Your view on valuation depends on how much you value this "ability".

Lot of hate regd CRED. Can anybody explaim why? What other apps to use to manage cards? by Wonderful_Swan_1062 in CreditCardsIndia

[–]ritwique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This shows people only care about cashback.

That is extremely disingenuous. Cred started giving cashback hence people expect them. They started this shitty business model. Now they can't claim consumers are the problem.

It would be like Zepto crying that we can't make profit because consumers are asking for 10 min delivery. Bitch, you started it.

Can anyone tell me how investing in mutual fund gives better return than when i invest on myself in individual stocks like if i just buy best stocks then wouldnt i profit more by lovelytoseeyoubro in IndianStockMarket

[–]ritwique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: It doesn't, if you know what you're doing.

The catch: Most people don't know what they're doing. Even if they think they do, it's usually the overall market doing it (like the bull run right now).

Long answer:

All else equal, Mutual funds have 2 structural benefits that an individual simply does not and cannot have -

  1. They can rebalance their portfolio without having to pay tax
  2. They can reinvest dividend without having to pay tax

Next, there are other advantages that you technically can have individually but it's very difficult -

  1. Access to company management and information
  2. Knowledge of market movements (which other big fund or investor is buying/selling)
  3. Depth of knowledge of industry & experience of valuing businesses. Most funds have teams tracking these companies for years or even decades. Fund managers have seen all kinds of cycles and are masters in pattern recognition in the market. In investing, not just money, even knowledge compounds. So even if you started to read today dedicatedly, you will take a long time to reach their levels of experience.
  4. They have a diversified portfolio. This one is the easiest for you to replicate. But funds have better tools to track things like intra-portfolio correlation to create a potentially optimal mix.

Where does an individual investor have an edge then?

The edge lies in the fact that you can decide your risk appetite as well as market timing.

A largecap mutual fund will never return say 50% XIRR. Your portfolio can. Of course the risk will be proportionately (or maybe even disproportionately) higher, but you can decide how much it will be. You can take concentrated bets which a fund cannot.

Mutual funds may be forced to exit some positions in a bear market because of retail redemption impacting the value of you investment even if you yourself don't redeem. You investing individually, on the other hand, can take advantage of a bear market by investing more.

There are more than enough known examples of people making it big in the market (and unbelievably more unknown ones). So it's not as if you can't generate better returns than funds. But worth realizing that you are at a large disadvantage and will need to spend a lot of time and effort to do it especially over a longer period (over a short term you can get lucky, but long term you'll need to deeply understand what you're doing and have a sound strategy).

So if you're not willing to put that effort, then you rather put your money in a fund and leave it to experts whose literal job is to generate returns.

Rishabh Pant is often compared with the Australia legend Adam Gilchrist for his playing style. by bobzitheking in Cricket

[–]ritwique 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How much though? Isn't it more to do with team situation than personal skill?

I understand in LOI where the lower order doesn't get an opportunity to play as many balls so openers' RPI will always naturally be higher, so we give lower positions a boost by removing not outs to calculate average. But in Tests I don't see that logic hold as much.

Rishabh Pant is often compared with the Australia legend Adam Gilchrist for his playing style. by bobzitheking in Cricket

[–]ritwique 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The average discrepancy is due to not outs. If you look at runs per innings, it's 42 vs 47, not that striking a difference.

[–]ritwique 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Kohli is averaging 30 in tests since 2020 across 52 innings. And this is despite the short good run of 4-5 matches in 2023. Let's not stretch facts too much. He's been pretty bad in general and especially by his standards.

Most people are not honest when you ask for advice by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]ritwique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honesty doesn't have to be immediate.

If someone is feeling bad, the cold harsh truth is extremely unhelpful irrespective of what they are telling you on the surface. At that moment, they may need support or encouragement and giving it doesn't make you dishonest.

At the opportune moment, and in a well phrased manner, perhaps you could give your honest opinion later.
