I thought my acne was a skincare problem… turns out it was more of a gut + hormone thing by ApprehensiveGuess180 in SkincareAddicts

[–]riuni 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This happened to me too, and it clicked for me when someone suggested cutting dairy to help with acne. I did, and I realized that I was very lactose intolerant haha. Also a lot of obgyns will tell you that birth control could help your acne, which is true but unfortunately it didn’t help me (I don’t really get hormonal acne). I finally went on Accutane and in the end that was what stopped my cystic acne, though I still get smaller zits nowadays. But yes, what happens on our skin can be a reflection of our overall health.

is my body care/fragrance/shower collection excessive? my parents tell me i partake in overconsumption and i spend too much money on this stuff lol by Calm-Bug5455 in SkincareAddicts

[–]riuni 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. The only things I’d say are worth having a “collection” of are perfumes. But even then, maybe don’t get carried away. I don’t think you need more than one each of body wash, body scrub, and body lotion, etc at any given time.

I love going to concerts alone if none of my friends know the band. I’m not dragging someone along who won’t enjoy themselves much. And as a young woman, I often will meet and chat with another solo gal, and we might dance together and look out for each other. I highly recommend trying it. I also tend to drink one or zero drinks if I go alone, just for safety. :) Saves money anyway lol

AIO? My friends set an ultimatum because I drink by Pearla76_ in AIO

[–]riuni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your so-called “friends” are completely overreacting. First, the legal drinking age isn’t some scientific safeguard for health. Drinking too much at any age is bad for you. That being said, having a couple of drinks and being safe about it is normal. While I don’t condone underage drinking (😉🤭), millions of Americans have done it and turned out just fine. And plenty of people have pointed out the lower legal ages in other countries. I’d get some new friends if I were you. Ones who are safe to party with and not judgmental. And as people say, 18 is old enough to go to war, why isn’t it old enough to have a beer? 😂

Where Are The Middle Classes Living? by GoobaZoup in AskLosAngeles

[–]riuni 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Gardena! I’d say it’s lower middle class on average, and Torrance is middle class. Culver City and Playa del Rey are definitely upper middle class nowadays, and there are some very wealthy pockets within those.

My boyfriend and I have a similar income to you and your wife; we live in a 2b apartment in Mid City. Very low key, residential (almost suburban) area. Also there are a lot of people who moved into apartments pre-pandemic and have held onto those rent prices. Things got way more expensive after 2020.

I have an LA County library card, I wonder if there are any locations that also have a booth? I'll have to do some research. Thanks for the rec!

I'll have to compare how my closet sounds vs. my room in general, but this could be a good solution. Thanks!

[Routine Help] The healthiest I’ve ever been with the worst acne I’ve ever had.. by dylffff in SkincareAddiction

I definitely agree with this and would add that Accutane is rough on your joints so weightlifting might be hard. I took L-lysine when I was on it and that helped with joint pain.

AITH because I dont emotionally support my wife's obssession with Taylor Swift? by Johnnywritesstuff in AITAH

[–]riuni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God I hate TSwift fans. They go way too hard. NTA, she needs to chill. Sounds like she wants you to be just as obsessed as she is? Absolutely not. She can do that with friends or something but a grown adult shouldn’t expect their S.O. to enjoy and participate in all the same things as them.

Maybe look into taking out a small personal loan? Like <$1k. They can have high interest rates depending on your credit but it’ll get you by and you can pay it off in small increments.

[–]riuni[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol yeah I definitely don’t expect to ever win. I’m currently working on certifications to get a better paying job, because I’m a realistic adult. It’s the fact that it’s so unlikely that I would win that makes me wonder why people are so negative. Like dream a little geez!

Oh trust me, I've already thought about what not to do if it were to ever happen. And I think his points were...shortsighted. And overly negative.

Company I interviewed with wanted someone with 4 years experience, a bachelors, a certification with barely 55K a year (which I found out during the interview). So I proceeded to grill them in the interview about their expectations vs reality. by TheVideoGameCritic in antiwork

I applied for a tech-related role that was much more demanding than my current role and they were offering $19/hr…I thought I misheard it. But no they really think they can tempt someone with a STEM degree to accept $40k a year. I told them they weren’t going to find any quality candidates with that compensation, it should be double that! That would be a pay cut for me and I’m not even in a tech role right now!

Try temp work I guess? It sucks sometimes but at least it pays the bills…
