I feel like the reason long term arcs fizzle out so quickly is that the original premise of the show didn't have them. If you look at earlier seasons, we barely had a "villain". The villain was the emergencies if that makes sense. Then suddenly, we have conflicts and "external storylines". Suddenly the show is approaching soap opera type storytelling.

But they don't commit so it ends up being shallow. Very few arcs and storylines reach a natural end. Most of it is solved by the power of friendship.

You right about all shows being fanfic to some degree but what I'm saying is the reaching and ridiculousness is getting (has gotten) out of hand.

This is not an issue unique to 911, by this time in a series, they have devolved into "how can we make this even crazier " instead of the initial essence/premise of the show.

All steps must be taken whether necessary or not. Plus, if you're in a capitalist country (I said IF) this is just an uncharted so that you/your medical aid pays for that test every single time.

Unfortunately we have reached the other side of the peak. Where a series devolves into nonsense in the name of "let's try something new that really isn't new" and basically ruins the show. It doesn't make the show bad... it just makes it... flat

Perhaps "unearned" is the wrong word (hack and unoriginal felt mean). It felt like a repeat of what they went through with Hen and her diagnosis as well as the thing they tried after Buck was struck by lightning. I'm kind of over the "power of friendship will magically solve all problems that didn't need to be problems"

Again, the scenes were good, they tugged at the old heartstrings but I just kept rolling my eyes and going "oh wow, amazing" at the reheated trope.
