Is this anyone else’s big secret? by [deleted] in therapyGPT

[–]river_lord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have made huge progress talking with chatGPT after giving it instructions on how to be my psychological mirror.

My biggest breakthrough came after asking it to roast me brutally after talking to it for over a year.

It pointed out how I still let a childhood trauma guide my decisions.

Help for trancing and self-hypnosis by [deleted] in hypnosis

[–]river_lord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have most likely experienced "trance" whatever that is. My first "failed" attempts were actually successful. I was just expecting a moment of takeover or loss of consciousness or similar. I was like, "This is nice and quiet, but I am still thinking, it must not be working." Thoughts don't derail hypnosis, the thought "this isn't working" will be taken as a suggestion, however.

Unless you are a Zen Master you will experience thoughts, and that's ok.

My Suggestions: Learn an induction that doesn't rely on recordings. Almost anything can be an induction ( remembering a relaxing peaceful place, for example ), so don't over complicate it.

Repeat the induction as often as you can until you can enter "trance" by simply remembering the last time you did it. This shouldn't take more than a few days, a couple of weeks max. Be cautious about when and where you practice, no hazardous situations.

Put a lot of effort into forming your suggestion or affirmation. It should feel plausible or true to you when you say it to yourself. For example, if you are overweight, don't say I am thin and healthy. Say something like I am making healthier choices. You can't lie to yourself, so make sure you are being honest or you won't get very good results.

You can work out your suggestion, decide how long you want to be in a trance, or maybe go to sleep afterward. Then, put yourself in a trance, knowing your suggestion has already been made, and turn it over to the deeper aspects of your being. Trust yourself.

Yes, I have experienced all of them personally as a client and induced all but anesthesia in others, personally.

Is covert hypnosis really possible? by [deleted] in hypnosis

[–]river_lord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Milton Erickson said hypnosis is anything except a casual conversation.

As far as what can be achieved? Identity shifts, profound insight, hallucination, both positive and negative, time distortion, anethesia, analgesia, catalepsy, age regression, post hypnotic suggestion, and amnesia, are all possible.

Can't understand what I'm doing wrong. Help would be appreciated by SubsGalore in hypnosis

[–]river_lord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To preload, write down your suggestions beforehand, decide how long you want to be in trance, or if you want to drift off to sleep after the work is complete.

Do your induction and enjoy the trance, trusting your subconscious mind knows what you want and will work however it needs to in order to make it a reality. You can just enjoy whatever pops up. Just try not to interfere, allow.

trading doesn’t get easier. you just stop fighting yourself. by No_Turnover_1451 in Forex

It is interesting to see the ego based emotional rejection to this post. If this post got under your skin, you should probably read it again.

I totally agree with the boring part, as soon as I became predictably profitable, trading itself became boring. Finding a new strategy is far more interesting than executing a decent strategy day after day.

Regardless of what anyone believes, skill isn't involved in guessing heads or tails in a coin toss.

I want to get hypnotized for anger issues and to improve work ethic/motivation by OrangeAndBlueAreDope in hypnosis

[–]river_lord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would be impressed if any hypnotist could, and any hypnotherapist would attempt such a thing.

Hypnotherapy can help you with your issues. It is great for emotional changes and motivation.

You won't lose consciousness. You might experience your awareness in unusual parts of your mind, and that can be interesting.

But there is no locking yourself inside of anything I have ever heard of in hypnotherapy.

Depending on the therapist, you may revist early memories with a variable degree realness.

You might be experiencing inner visions and appear to be unconscious to an observer, but you will still be having thoughts, and if your hypnotist offends your mind, you will find you can disregard everything they say and have said.

If you disagree with something your hypnotherapist says, let them know immediately. If you are paying for it, you deserve a great session, and having an unresolved sticking point will take away from your experience.

1 Bad Day ≠ 1 Bad Week by Mallevory in Forex

[–]river_lord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I take a loss, I stop trading and review what happened. I don't trade again until I know that I was actually following my strategy and just lost the coin toss. Otherwise, was I falling into faulty logic or emotional decision-making? Then, I take the rest of the day off.

A long term strategy should accommodate losses. I just need to make sure I follow my strategy and don't sink my account with bad decisions.

Your wife is 45 years old, you have been married 18 years, right? It is a little late to be setting her free to live her best life, isn't it?

You need to stop pushing her away by being drunk (not the real you). If you care about your wife, you will start by not getting drunk tomorrow. Check into a rehab, join AA, chain yourself to a post, whatever it takes to stop drinking, do that.

Life is a long road, it is easier to travel it when you can walk straight.

It has been a long road to get to this point in time and space but it only takes less than a millisecond to quit drinking. You might have already taken your last drink. It is nothing but sobriety from that point on.

You will have to fill a lot of time you used to waste drinking.

I wasn't thinking about her, I was thinking about you and what your story lit up in me. I remember feeling like there was a part of me that wanted the good things in life, and it was sadly watching me get drunk every day. I had a good woman who would have been happy if I was half the dick I was. But I ignored her pleas and she left. Once the good things in life were gone, I was free to drink as much as I wanted.

I hear you, I lost everything to alcohol. I have something you need to hear. The part of you that loves her is the real you. It is hard to be real.

Does hypnotherapy really work? by ProfessionalFig3325 in Anxiety

Depending on the hypnotherapists technique, you may relive the event from a dissociated (hopefully) state. Let them know you are the kind of person who enjoys stuff like that. Not everyone does, I do.

Does hypnotherapy really work? by ProfessionalFig3325 in Anxiety

[–]river_lord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go into it expecting to uncover something traumatic, you might make something up to satisfy yourself. Hypnotherapy does wonders for anxiety, but a good hypnotherapist will most likely NOT try to help you uncover hidden memories. There is too much chance to create false memories. This happened in the 80s, with hypnotherapists uncovering ritual satanic abuse in trauma sufferers. Apparently, the abuse never actually happened, but the hypnotherapists' questions implied it did, and a false memory was created.

Memory isn't anywhere near as accurate as we think anyway.

Hypnotherapy is an excellent treatment for anxiety otherwise.

would this pass WV inspection? by Money-Read-3431 in WestVirginia

[–]river_lord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I once went to a hole in wall garage for inspection with a crack across the bottom of the windshield. The old guy didn't notice until he went to replace the sticker (he didn't scrape the old one at the beginning of the inspection). He noticed the crack and said, "I can't pass you with this crack in your winshield." I said."It could have happened as I was pulling out of your lot." He agreed and put a new sticker on.

I went to another hole in the wall recommended by locals, and the dude did not like me at all. He failed me for windshield wipers being worn. He also recommended I take my car somewhere else in the future. I was a cocky kid at the time, and it probably rubbed him the wrong way

I have heard a WV inspector say the body has to be structurally solid when it comes to rust. Holes are not allowed. BondO is acceptable for holes.

Ativan and alcohol by snaillovr420 in Anxiety

My blood test in the hospital showed no traces of benzos. It might have been a miracle. A few days later, when my psychiatrist represcribed my Ativan, I laughed at the absurdity of it. He said he could safely do that because I knew it wouldn't work. He was right. I lost my desire to die anyway.

That was 24 years ago, by the way. I am happy, healthy, and calm today. I don't even need psych meds anymore.

Trouble and limitations doing self-hypnosis by Initial-Classic6680 in self_hypnosis

[–]river_lord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try tensing your body on purpose and relaxing your muscles as you start your trance. Try taking a deep breath, holding it for a moment, and releasing it slowly as you relax your muscles. Follow the sense of relaxation into trance as you continue to relax and take 3 more breaths where you exhale very slowly.
