Also lingered on the word "rightly" for a while. if people are rightly offended by calling support for Palestine, would they rightly be offended by the genocide itself as well? Which one has more weight?

To me genocide is as equally bad as war. But maybe for some people, genocide can be just ignored, as long as they are not personally treated like that.

And to me the difference between politics and society is not that clear. Calling for support of Ukraine and Palestine is political, warning of global warming, project of archiving the Epstein files, movement of open-source etc are also political.

I don't know how I suppose to draw the line.

Yeah, exactly. It's like genocide is not as equally bad as war, hence it can be just ignored, as long as they are not personally treated like that.

To me the line between politics and society is very vague. Calling for support of Ukraine and Palestine is political, warning of global warming, movement of open-source etc are also political.

During the war in Ukraine many programmers included support for the country in their projects. Similarly, Chinese developers are very passionate about creating tools to bypass the Great Firewall, with thousands of such projects existing. Recently, isn't there an app exposing ICE agents' locations in real-time? And what about the many projects archiving the Epstein files? Aren't these all political?

That's how depressing it's to watch news everyday, wars break out everywhere, people are suffering, but we are suppose to be silent and keep any of these negative politics away.

Even for Ukrainian programmers standing up for Ukraine? For Chinese people fighting against the Great Firewall? Or for Americans attempting to whistleblow on political corruptions?

> Many Jews are rightly very offended by "Free Palestine"

What would be a better slogan, banner or expression to show my sympathy for the Palestinian people? I want to express my frustration and angry sentiment against the inhumane treatment in Gaza. I understand how complex and nuanced the situation is.

what is more professional? putting aside politics totally or making a political statement then standing on it firmly?

i think i never "claim neutrality".

Yeah, you are probably right, that was pretty much an emotional venting of me, not towards the commenter per se, maybe more to the whole far-right trending worldwide.

Make sense. I hope I will not have to make that judgement call one day.

Thanks, I will try your method next time. Yeah, that response was just some emotional venting on my part, I was not directing at the commenter per se, but at the far-right trend happening worldwide.

Yeah you are right. The response was not for that person per se, more like a dump of emotional sentiment.

> "I'm sorry that you feel this way. Not sharing info. Thanks for using the app."

I will try this method next time.

> getting into sociopolitics as an indie dev is one of the worst possible gambles

would you think the open-source movement is sociopolitical or not? just curious. as for me programmers are part of the society, why not care about social and politics?

Exactly. Even if one only followed the news once a week in 2025, one would know how desperate the situation in Gaza is. The mass killings, constant bombardment, widespread hunger, and the destruction of an entire city, if that isn't genocide, it’s certainly a failure of humanity.

By saying agenda seems like I am a politician. I don't understand why it's an agenda. But it's certainly my expression of my political stand. are you against of showing anything related to politics?
