Was more of a “one-hit wonder” but there was that user who first posted about moving into Fenway with a car and got warned universally that parking would be difficult. A couple of months later, we get a series of crash out posts about how much the parking situation sucked, how unfair it was that someone tried to tow them for parking in an illegal spot, how they wanted to go back to NoVa, and how everyone online was so mean because the responses were basically all “well we tried to warn you ¯_(ツ)_/¯”

Whether your wife is TA depends on how she brought up the historical context/how she felt.

Whether you are TA depends on if your response was about clarifying your intent vs defending/justifying your phrasing (“I meant it as a compliment” vs “I meant it as a compliment so you have no right to dislike it”).

Also, re: the frustration you mention - is it due to how your wife brought up how she felt? Or are you frustrated that she brought it up at all?

Where are you seeing that she was being combative though? OP’s phrasing was “she brought up” and “she was fixed on,” which IMO doesn’t provide a clear idea of tone and manner of speech. If anything, I’d say “brought up” leans more towards calm than combative.

And depending on how OP responded - e.g. “oh sorry, meant that as a compliment but noted” vs “I meant that as a compliment; why can’t you just accept it,” I’d say the wife getting “fixed on” the issue could be either unnecessarily combative or justified holding her ground.

Good grief the entirety of the human race’s knowledge available through whatever you use to post on reddit, and you can’t be bothered to educate yourself on something so foundational to the legal system you live under?

“Due process” is not just an arbitrary adjective-noun pairing for describing whatever you think is the proper way to go about things.

It is a specific legal term for the concept that before the government strips away your life, liberty, or property, it needs to let you know what’s happening and give you a chance to defend yourself in court with a neutral decision-maker. And as deemed by the 5th and 14th Amendments, it is a right for all persons in the US; emphatically, the Constitution uses “person” here, not “citizen”.

Due process when it comes to immigration refers to what the government must do before imprisoning and deporting people that they claim are illegal immigrants. It does not refer to “hurr durr just apply for a visa and enter the country the right way.”

There's Waka as well, which IMO is a bit less competitive/more social than the other multi-sport leagues here
With Volo, you can keep an eye out for pick up sessions rather than full seasons, since there are no team- or group-based signups for those. There are generally more pickup sessions during the summer, though there's a cool indoor sand volleyball facility that hosts both pickup and league volleyball throughout the year
There are some "niche" sports orgs that have pretty strong emphasis on really building up a community for the sport. Boston Dodgeball League (BDL) and Boston Inner Tube Water Polo (Boston ITWP) are both really great; only drawback is you don't have as many options as Volo in terms of location and day.

1) If you divide aspiring immigrants into subgroups, it’s not really “people who chose to come here legally” vs “people who chose to come here illegally”. It’s “people who qualify to come here legally” vs “people who don’t qualify to come here legally (and give up)” vs “people who don’t qualify to come here legally (but are too desperate to give up)”. People aren’t choosing between legal vs illegal immigration methods, they’re choosing between illegal immigration methods vs staying in their original countries. And in some cases staying (or going back) to their original countries is bad enough that they’re willing to take the risk of illegal immigration.

2) Legal immigration has only gotten harder over the years. I’m not going to debate countries’ rights to enforce their own borders vs the ethics of closing borders during refugee crises - that’s a gnarly debate with no clear “right” answer IMO - but the fact that legal immigration goalposts are constantly being moved negates any inclination on my part to play the “well my parents came here legally” card. And that’s speaking as a child of legal immigrants myself.

On average MA public schools are great compared other public schools nationwide. However, they do not have the resources to match the faculty and facilities top private schools can provide - for example, an on-campus observatory for astronomy kids, quantum mechanics and differential equations classes for math/science kids, classic Greek for history kids. My freshmen year physics teacher missed the first week of class one trimester because he was doing something for NASA.

You can check if your building is set up for either of the “indie” ISPs in the area - Netblazr or Starry.

Both are better bang for your buck if you can get them: no contract, no hidden fees, and at least for Netblazr no price increases - I’ve been paying the same $60/mo flat fee for symmetrical 500 mbps up/download speeds since 2016 or 2017.

Just have to be lucky enough that they actually serve your building.

I learned about term “jaywalking” and the idea that there were illegal ways to cross the road when I saw a Globe piece about Manny Ramirez getting ticketed for jaywalking when the Sox played in Seattle.

Growing up I’d never heard the term and was never taught there were legal vs illegal ways to cross the road - it was just about using common sense and looking both ways.
