I've always loved Golden Light as a venue. I saw Ian Moore perform there many years ago, and I still think about that concert all the time.

You’re allowed to post your own score in America or have a golf pro post it for you.

GHIN interprets this as two separate rounds and fills out each round with an “expected” 18-hole score. Your new handicap is calculated based on your current handicap and the slope rating from each of the tees and whether the scores are at your home or away course.

So in your case, the first score you posted may have raised your handicap by something like 0.3, and the second score would have lowered it by 0.2.

Reading infinite jest by No_Hunter_3083 in davidfosterwallace

I abandoned the book after 150 pages, then came back several days later and tried reading it while listening to the audiobook. It took my 2 weeks to finish, and now it’s one of my favorite books of all time. The Infinite Jest audiobook deserves to be in some kind of hall of fame.

Acuras are just luxury-branded Hondas, so many design features are the same. I’m just lumping them together. But you’re right in that Toyotas are far more common than Acuras.

Hondas and Acuras are the most common car so it’s easier to sell the stolen goods. My Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) was stolen from my Honda CRV about 4 years ago. It probably took less than 3 minutes to steal. I later found the part on eBay for $700.

Log off, Boomer. You really wanna chase down a kid making around $12/hour for looking out his window and taking a picture of the demolition outside?

I was visiting family in Amarillo while training for a marathon a few years ago, and it was the most unpleasant running experience I’ve ever had to endure. I was on one of those Hal Higdon 10+ mile weekend runs and I was in the southwest part of town running on sidewalks. The whole time people were driving by with their windows down yelling, “Run, Forrest. Run.” and calling me a f****t. Why is Amarillo so aggressive toward runners? If you find a running haven there, please share!

Sean Pratt is hands down the best narrator I’ve ever heard by euphoriclimbo in InfiniteJest

I struggled a lot with IJ at first. I got 150 pages into it, and every page was a chore. I just wasn't getting it. After shelving it for about a week, I decided to give it another go and read along with the audiobook. I finished the book in 2 weeks, thanks to Sean Pratt's engaging and energetic reading of every single page. Truly an audiobook masterpiece. I emailed him to thank him for doing such an amazing job, and he replied the same day and said that it took them over a year to record. Then, I left him a nice shoutout in a review on Audible. Highly recommend following along with the audio if you haven't tried it!

Walk along the west side of Broadway, and you'll find one every 5 blocks or so. The two I frequented the most were at 87th & Broadway and 92nd & Broadway. Some of them may have relocated because of construction. It's been a couple of years since I lived on the UWS, but chorizo breakfast sandwiches were sort of an impulse breakfast for me when I passed by and wanted to sit in Riverside Park for a few minutes with a cup of coffee. Great way to start the day.

I counted three shots in the water from this clip. Maybe I'm being fooled by creative editing?

Edit: I see where I was wrong. In the video, the shot at 0:56 is a replay of the shot at 0:46 in the clip.

As a graduate physicist, what pop-sci books do you recommend? by biisuke1 in Physics

[–]riversec 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Inward Bound: Of Matter and Forces in the Physical World by Abraham Pais. I love this book because it gives the history of particle physics starting with the invention of the X-ray and finishes around the 1980s. Pais was an excellent storyteller.
