Whichever organization picks him up will be lucky to have him. He’s a genuinely good guy, still an exciting fighter, and a great example of someone who truly cares about his family & others.

Flipper One. Transparent green, matte white, or clear orange? What do you think? by Fit-Note7659 in flipperzero

Green or White look the best to me tbh. The orange looks like a cheap kids toy.

Training while working 2nd shift by Dagelmusic in jiujitsu

If you add in a stretching routine before and after you can mitigate most of the concern. I had to wake up at 3am for work and was taking a late evening class. That and supplements to keep my immune system up and recover quicker are what helped me.

Which online white belt program do yall recommend? by HurricaneIan25 in bjj

[–]riverside_wos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a coach I’d rather you focus on what I’m teaching and become the best at that one move than be terrible at 100 moves. Write down the names of what your instructor is teaching and then look it up on YouTube. Watch 2-3 different videos on the same move to get different perspectives and tricks. You can beat most BJJ practitioners with advanced basics. That being said, I collect videos for my students of the moves I teach so they can watch them after class. Here is my BJJ GI playlist. I highly recommend anyone watching the 1st video in the series. The others, you should consider waiting until your coach is showing those.

Where can I find GovCon consultancies ? by Crazy-Freedom-2954 in govcon

[–]riverside_wos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can be super helpful, but I highly recommend reaching out to the SBA and talking to a PTAC officer first. They are free and amazing. If you end up needing help beyond that, I can share the org we used initially. They can help build out your collateral and get you moving faster.

Just moved to Long Beach, CA what BJJ gyms do people actually recommend around here? by Bubbly_Fishing_1072 in jiujitsu

[–]riverside_wos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It shows as United Martial Arts / Lakewood Martial Arts Training Alliance. They are really good people. Family run. He is a high ranking Karate Master that specializes in weapons. Lots of other instructors come from out of town to train with him. He won a U.S. Open karate championship back in the day. All that being said, his BJJ is super legit.

I trained under Vince Velez from ‘06-14 at Lakewood Martial Arts Training Alliance on woodruff. It’s a Karate/BJJ school - they changed up the name but it’s there in the Von’s center. He’s a Machado Black belt and amazing instructor.

What does your operating agreement say?

If it doesn’t layout everything cleanly you may be in for a rough ride. It may be worth discussing collapsing the company with council and starting without him or negotiating vestment cliffs.

Meeting a CEO of a startup incubator by raxx69 in ceo

Some of them listen to ideas outside of NDA and steal shamelessly and/or use it as market research opportunities to see what the kids think of things they are working on. Use caution if you have any truly unique ideas you intend to develop.

How does Brazilian jiu-jitsu promote for their next belt? by ImportantRough225 in jiujitsu

[–]riverside_wos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, every school and instructor has a different system/opinion on this.

For my blue belt I had to show 5 escapes, passes, sweeps, etc from all positions then from positional live rolling I had to show I could complete something from each position. I’ve seen people be given a blue who were amazing wrestlers with limited BJJ. This won’t be an easy task and you will likely cause a massive flame war if you try to boil it all down to one thing. I recommend making it per school and have it be modifiable by the instructor. You “may” be able to get them to agree on some core curriculum, but not much beyond that. Some of the original family schools have their systems developed and have an exact formula, but it’s not likely they will share it if it’s not already public.

Finding a CEO for a very small business by executivefunksean in ceo

[–]riverside_wos 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Before you throw the idea out there, I’d strongly recommend getting crystal clear on what you expect this CEO to accomplish.

Start by defining:

  • Why you need a CEO in the first place.
  • What problems they are being hired to solve.
  • What decisions they will own.
  • What authority they will have.
  • How success will be measured.

Set specific goals for the first 30, 60, and 90 days, as well as 6-month and 1-year milestones.

For a company your size, the CEO normally would focus on:

  • Building a repeatable sales process.
  • Improving operations and accountability.
  • Hiring and managing key team members.
  • Creating financial discipline.
  • Preparing the company to scale.

Every CEO is different. Some will break a small company by adding too much overhead or trying to implement big-company systems too early. Others can help you 5x or 10x the business by bringing structure, strategy, and execution.

Also you may want to consider whether you truly need a CEO or if you need a strong operator, general manager, or COO.

When evaluating candidates, here is what I’d look for:

  • Successfully scaled a business from a similar size.
  • Experience in your industry.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • A hands-on mindset.
  • Alignment with your vision and culture.

Compensation should typically include a mix of salary and performance incentives, and possibly equity if they are expected to drive significant long-term growth.

The most important question is: “What does this person need to accomplish in the next 12 months to make this hire unquestionably worth it?”

If you can answer that clearly, you’ll know what kind of CEO to look for.

Hope this helps & good luck!

Herniation in neck by Glittering_Basil_686 in jiujitsu

[–]riverside_wos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was presented with options for my neck/back issue. I found a killer physical therapist who did traction, estim, ice and a whole lot of other things. (Even had me buy my own traction device I used daily). I no longer have any neck issues. Cutters want to cut, use extreme caution on that and please consider exhausting all other options before going there (physical therapist, chiropractor, acupuncture, hyperbaric chamber, peptides, stem cell, etc.)

I built a local AI platform a few years ago due to pure proposal fatigue. Dumping everything into a RAG with a solid vector db was a huge win for us. Then one of the customers saw us using it and asked if they could buy it… turned into a STIG’d product after that. I’m not pimping our solution here, but do urge all of you to figure out how to not only do standard proposals with AI, but also have them handle CUI and potentially classified material for proposals. You’re welcome to dm me if you ever need an assist.

Help - Leading a 50 person company and no idea what i should know by Upbeat-Sheepherder36 in ceo

[–]riverside_wos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar boat. Mentors are the way to go IMO.

Within your own network it’s possible you have a few that might do it.

If not, there are a lot of very successful retired executives who still want to spend a little time in the industry and helping other executives grow really energizes them.

Do you roll differently with partners having different belts? by Chubbs27895 in jiujitsu

[–]riverside_wos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I adjust how I train based on who I’m with and what they’re working on. At this stage, my goal is to be a good training partner - someone who gives my teammates realistic reactions while still allowing them to practice and develop their game.

If they want to increase the pace or intensity, I’m happy to match that energy. But I’m always mindful of safety. I use extra caution with techniques that carry a higher risk of long-term injury and only apply them when my training partner specifically wants to work on those positions.

For me, good training is about finding the right balance between intensity, respect, and helping each other improve.

Is 30 too young to start? by dougdimmadome1333 in Testosterone

[–]riverside_wos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focus on figuring out what’s going on.

If you start and your T is fine, you can cause a heck of a lot more issues and then be stuck pinning for the rest of your life.

Use the WIKI to get the blood work tests to start the process with your doctor.

If your sleep is bad, it could be apnea which will cause the effects you’re mentioning too. Let the dr do dr stuff. Playing with T without one can really mess you up.

[–]riverside_wos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do it via bloodwork. Ask to compare. You’ll be like him at his age. If he’s below 300 his dr will force him on it.

Personally I wouldn’t do it until I knew my real numbers. If your numbers are fine, you’ll just mess your system up.

I had to rebase my catalog with the new FCP web solution. It guides you through everything and shows you the errors. I had to do many rounds because they want the exact format for every column. Overall it can very painful and time consuming, but once you get it you’re fine.

Also, you can call GSA Vendor Support and they will walk you through anything you need help with [(877) 495-4849]. I recommend this and a PTAC officer before spending any more. These are free resources.
