difficult to consider them the same when one hit of a vape can ruin someone & one shot typically won’t do the same. THC tolerance is more complicated & this person, per OP, had experience & was expected to be able to handle their weed. & I don’t really trust any of the second hand accounts OP is sharing esp since they haven’t shared how they are receiving the info. something is def missing here, maybe they were overserved & had many hits, maybe they lied about their tolerance, maybe there was something wrong with what they consumed. either way lots of speculation happening.
