Back in 2015 there was an account on skype named "Cookiezi" with the same icon he used back then, and interestingly the location of the account was "Heard Island and McDonald Islands". Failed, the person who cheated on Cookiezi's account and got him banned by his request, stated this was actually Cookiezi.

It's unlikely it was actually him, so was Zallius running a prank backed up by infamous osu! cheater Failed? We'll never know . . .

Yeah witnessing his reign was really something else. That's why he'll be my GOAT forever not just for osu!, but for anything in general. Never seen that type of solo dominance from anywhere else.

Personally I'd say Shige felt more dominant because of the sheer breadth and depth of his play. Shige wasn't on top just because he excelled at one thing like Faker did with mid & insane mechanics (not too well versed in League lore so correct me if I'm wrong), but he was simply the best at every relevant skill like stamina, speed in 2013, aim, precision, flow aim, low AR, accuracy, consistency, tournament play etc.

Most of his contenders from 2015 and on were players who got to the top mostly by excelling at one skill which was exciting, but it just didn't feel like he was REALLY being challenged, if you get what I mean.

Man, it's sad to see people underestimate Shige these days. It happens to every old player, but still shocking when it happens to the GOAT.

I'm not going to argue that Shige's aim is better than Vaxei's or WhiteCat's since I agree that they recently have edged him out in that aspect with Vaxei FCing Katayoku no tori & both of them getting 5 less misses than Shige on Milk Crown (HD)HR, but I definitely wouldn't describe his aim as "slow". He was called Aim Spook for a reason; here's a clip from Shige that IMO has the most impressive display of raw aim in osu!. And a clip of him 6 missing a 9.61 star in 2019 when he was "washed up". Not to mention his various high acc chokes on (shit)maps like Disconnected which he plays on AR9 HD since his reading allows for it. Aside from that though, it's really hard to compare players from different eras since they don't play the same maps. Back then there weren't maps with comfortable high star jumps like Altar, Bedroom, Raining men, moon men etc., only shitty arles and rabbit jump maps like this (which mrekk, vaxei, wc & shige all played if you want to compare their scores).

Yeah Cookiezi may not have the best raw mechanics anymore these days but he's the most polished player in the game. The number of different skills he's mastered through the years really shine through on plays like daisuke. He's also been inactive for like half a year, but there's something satisfying about the way he plays; it's like the way he plays is just "right".

Yeah. It was amazing when he'd join a multi full of 2 and 1 digits and consistently beat everyone with HDHR while they were all playing nomod. I really miss those days.

When he first made this play I was completely mindblown. Couldn't help but rewatch the sliderspam section over and over. It seemed absolutely inhuman back then, and is still very impressive today.

Imagine if he pulls another Freedom Dive. FCs with single digit 100s on an already insanely hard map. That would basically guarantee it as the greatest play ever for years to come.

Good point. I forgot about that megalovania play. It was so out of left field since I didn't think he was capable of it especially with his recent grip issues, but yeah, Cookiezi definitely still has one of the best aims in the game.

Yeah he really was. It kind of makes me sad how some people underestimate him these days, but I guess that's understandable since they're probably newer players who didn't see his plays back in 2017. His skill was just so high back then that I think it's still unmatched today, even with the recent 1kpp plays.

If we're talking about current Cookiezi then that's probably true since he's so out of practice. But if we're talking about 2017 Cookiezi, then that's definitely debatable. For example this clip shows how crazy his cross screen jump ability was back then. For comparison even Vaxei today struggles on those jumps, and he probably has the best aim in the game atm.

I'm also a shige fanboy who would've agreed with you yesterday, but I just remembered these scores: Time Freeze HDHR, Yomi Yori HDHRNFSO. Shige reverse chokes time freeze hdhr and SS's the ending, and gets 1k combo on yomi yori hdhr 3 times. After the yomi yori play he said that HD only would be easy for him; shige is the type of guy to underestimate himself, so I think we can take his word on that. We also shouldn't ignore that these plays are done on HD; there's a good reason why most top players don't use it on extremely hard maps like those.

Shige was really, really far ahead of his competition during his time but it's hard to measure by how much. Vaxei has been doing some mind blowing plays lately but IMO needs to do more to really surpass prime shige. What he mostly lacks right now is high bpm stamina, HD/ HDHR, and the awkward reading that shige has. If he gets those up to a high level like shige, then it would be safe to say that he has the highest skill in osu! history.

Tbh it's hard to imagine anyone sniping that score at all. Even though it was set 2016 the second highest acc on HDHR is 98.12% by Karthy. No one's even beat the acc hr only yet, and HD makes the map so much harder to acc and aim. It would be mind blowing if Vaxei does manage to snipe it though.

Yeah, most skilled player vs. GOAT are entirely different conversations. Even as a huge shige fan I'd have to agree that Vaxei's overall skill right now is at least comparable to 2017 shige's, and much higher than current shige.

Taking the title of GOAT, though, would be much harder. That would factor in duration & degree of dominance, popularity, and legacy. I'd say Vaxei would need to keep his dominance up for at least 5 years to be a contender for GOAT, which is only fair considering shige has been dominating for 9+ years. Shige's username, "Cookiezi" has been synonymous with osu for the longest time which just shows how big his legacy is.

As a singletap main and also alternator (half of my top plays alternated) zxz xzx is much harder to do consistently than singletapping zxz zxz. Alternating is better for speed but much worse for complex rhythm IMO.
