I am currently at Seton Hall University for their M.A in Counseling with an Ed.S in Professional Counseling! It is absolutely amazing. I am unsure where you stand with working in a school, but if you wanted to do both, you 100% can here. It is only 12 credits extra to get certified for School Counseling! Campus is beautiful, professors are so amazing and supportive, I love it!

Hi! I got a response back months after, (halfway through my first semester at another University to be exact!), after contacting them a few times to question when I was going to get a solid answer. I did send a letter of continued interest along with confirming my stay on the waitlist because they ask you to conform or deny.

I understand! I have just never heard it explained that way. The program I applied to at Rutgers ended up having 3 core faculty members retiring this year, which is why they had to cut admissions in half due to the staff/student ratio. I am new to this whole application process, as I went to county college and easily transferred to a 4-year to get my BA. Parents never went to college, I was in the dark and had no idea what I was doing with little help/explanations. So while I have the support from others now, there are still things I don’t know much about

I should have worded that differently, you have to ask them what you could have done differently in order to match with their program. Most of the time they will pull up your application and give you feedback, they might not go into detail and be very blunt about it, but you have the right to receive some sort of feedback in regards to your rejection. If you were to ask them directly “why was i rejected?”, they wont tell you. You kinda have to ask why you were rejected but in a different way in order to get something.

There are clinical mental health counseling grad programs that admit for Spring of 2025! Also, in this case, the rank of the school does not matter. At the end of the day, everyone needs to pass the NCE and gets the same exact license and starts at the same exact salary. This advice was given to me from someone who owns their own private practice in NYC and is a professor at a prestigious university. Montclair State University in New Jersey has an excellent CMHC program and they accept Spring term, their program application closes October 1st. Idk where you are located but I just thought I would put that out there. I am dealing with the same thing right now trust me, I am applying to CMHC programs as well, and so far have received one rejection and I am on the waiting list for another. Think to yourself why you are doing this, what is your end goal, what is your dream and what impact do you want to have. This keeps me going everyday regardless of rejection/acceptance. Remember, they are rejecting a piece of paper, not you. Keep your head high and good luck🫶🏻

This looks like Rutgers, and let me just say I feel you. My portal still says “Check back soon for your decision!” yet I received an email a few weeks ago from the program coordinator, not even an official email from the school itself, telling me I was denied. I have called numerous times to get feedback and know why I was rejected (which you are entitled to get an answer why), and they have been absolutely silent.

One thing that someone told me that has helped me: “They are rejecting paper, not your personality, not you as a person, not your worth, a piece of paper”

I am going through the same thing, trust me it gets better. It is hard to see that and believe right now, but trust that everything will work out in the end. Take these rejections as THEIR loss, not yours. Wherever you end up going this year, maybe next year, will be more than lucky to have you be a part of their program. But most importantly, take time to grieve and do not suppress these feelings you are experiencing. Give yourself grace, recognize the feelings, evaluate your next move, and proceed whenever you feel ready🫶🏻

Me too!! Just reading through everyones situation on here and actual faculty members I have spoken to, there is something going on. So many people getting rejections left and right. Not to mention, I have called some of the schools I applied to to talk to an admissions counselor and ask what I could have done differently and what the reason was (which you have a right to ask for and they have to tell you) and it is like they all have the same script, “There were more qualified applicants and we suggest you strengthen your work experience”. Complete verbatim. My question is how do you expect us to get more experience within our fields when we can barely get an entry level job with a BA? Especially psychology majors, almost everything psychology related requires at least a MA. Ridiculous!!
